The First State
17-0 1972...

And yes, the 73' team was better, but had 2 losses....

Captained my franchise for 25 years.... from age 10 thru 35...

The consistency he provided was essential to their overall success, but he was a no bull-shit guy with not much patience for excuses, and that created a winning culture that was in place for the majority of his tenure. And beloved to his players over the years....Look it up on the tube thingy.

One of the best to ever do it .....

He had a great run at 90.....

He will be missed ...especially by Dolphins Nation.

Much Respect

Rest in Peace Coach.:sadwave:

Favorite Don Shula story came from an article in Sports Illustrated way back
Shula was a very private person and when his team went undefeated 16-0 ?? he was interviewed ,on TV 24-7 .so much media.. so he and his wife went on vacation to Maine maybe his wife was from there, not sure he wanted to go to someplace away from the accolades and media..
Their 1st night in Maine they went into movie theater that was virtually empty..as they sat down the crowd gave them a huge ovation Shula thought wow even in a dark theater with only a few people he was applauded.. He turned around to wave and say thank you ...even in a dark movie theater in a small coastal town in Maine he was recognized..when the movie was over and people were leaving someone said to him " thank god you guys came in.. the theater needed 8 people and if you didn't show up the manager was cancelling the movie.. "
