I dont know about you guys but I have had enough. Today was the first time in my life that I have turned off a playoff game without knowing the outcome or having somewhere to be. There was nothing else I rather have been doing than watching Playoff basketball, and I turned it off at half. It was ESPN's ignorant, racist take on how black men sound aka screamin a smith, who pushed me over the edge, but this whole playoffs have been sickening.
The "nba" is no longer about basketball, it is about acting first and foremost with all the flopping and flailing that dominates the game. At a close second is bitching and complaining, which I can understand some of it when there IS so many suspect fouls called against players who were unfortunate enough to come across actors. And thirdly, ahead of teamwork, skills, fundamentals and everything else that is great about basketball is the politics. I mean how lame is it when a team is rewarded by the commissioner for cheap shots but that same commissioner will suspend Melo for 15 games for throwing a slap. And it leaves us fans arguing over the definition of "altercation".
I am just sick of it all. And so I am done with the NBA for this year and will be for next year and every year after until the "game" changes back to basketball.
I will say this, the spurs are the best team in the "NBA". I dont think that is a compliment though. They truly are the epitome of what the league has become. Playing in a sport without flopping or bitching or politics, the spurs fall quite a bit short. Parker throws himself at you on a fast break to draw a foul and gets rewarded three or four times in a row, I mean honestly, in real basketball, you do that a couple times and you will earn your foul, and you would be out for the rest of the game with a broken nose. You play like a bitch, you get treated like one. And reading the post game write up there was talk about ginobili doing his same old act, which isnt too surprising.
And they are not the only team that is guilty of it either. And it is not even their whole team, but most. Many players around the league employ similar tactics and it is becoming disgusting.
If we took away all the ticky tack bs fouls, all the flopping, all the bitching, all the politics, we would have a very entertaining game. Of course, the heat wouldve never won the title last year, wade would be about half as productive(if he were even playing), the spurs would be a middle of the road team in the west(ginobili would be completely ineffective besides butchering the english language in interviews and bowen would be in prison), almost every single foreign player would stock would drop since they all flop from growing up watching soccer, and the game would be pure again.
Im sorry that it is just me rambling on about how much I hate what has become of a sport I had loved. Congrats to the spurs for winning tonight, little doubt they will go on to win the "NBA" Championship. Unfortunately that doesnt mean anywhere near what it used to 10 or 15 years ago.
