Round 1 plays (2pts):
Peter Hanson to beat Justin Rose +100 @ Paddy Power [also available @ Stan James and Bet365]
Twice a winner on the European Tour since September, Hanson is certainly playing well enough to win again this week. He has come close on this course - his finishes in the three years here read 9th, 13th and 4th and he was the first round leader last year. Rose may rank above him in the World Rankings (7th vs 19th), but in his one previous visit to this course, only six players finished below him on the leaderboard.
Pablo Larrazabal to beat Stephen Gallacher +110 @ Paddy Power [available generally]
Similar course histories in this matchup - Larrazabal finished in the top-10 on his debut last year; Gallacher finished 51st of 60 in his previous visit. Back in form with a top-10 finish last week and a 13-8-0 h2h record against Gallacher in 2012, I'm surprised to see the home player as the underdog in this matchup.
David Drysdale to beat Lee Slattery +100 @ Pinnacle [available generally]
Slattery makes his debut on this course and, even though he won the 2011 Madrid Masters, he has missed four of his last six cuts in Spain. Drysdale does have experience from playing here in 2010 and has missed just one cut in Spain in his last 15 visits, a period that includes two top-3 finishes in Spain. With Drysdale also boasting a 12-6-0 h2h against Slattery (10-5-3 in rd1) over the last 12 months, I'll gladly take the plus-odds on offer.
