Drive home from Vegas

We were in Vegas over two years, so we accumulated lots of stuff. We discussed many options; get a PODS and ship home, rent an SUV and drive that and our car home, mail stuff, and rent a U-Haul. My vote was to just give away everything not sentimental and pack our car to the gills. We ended up doing that, and we gave away a huge pile of lots of good things to some friends and some needy people at the apartment complex.

We drove to Vegas originally in 32 hours straight including stops. That was a rough trip, and we decided to break it up coming home. Our first day, my wife was looking at the route, and it went close by Arches National Park. I told her no problem, I'll get a hotel close and we will go first thing day 2. I picked the cheapest place I could find which ended up being Book Cliff Lodge in Greenville, Utah. It wasn't the cleanest, and the outlet next to the bed didn't work, but it was less than $50. I'm not too good for that value [emoji2]

The hike the next morning was a SOB, and I hurt my knee early on. Very beautiful place though and worth the time.

I drove B around the rest of the park, and since parking was limited and my knee was killing me, she hiked to a few more for photos. We drove several hours and stayed that night in Limon, Colorado just outside Denver in the First Inn Gold. This was another 50s built jewel, but it was clean and comfy and only $52 [emoji2]

This second night in Limon, I determined we had 1,000 miles and change to go or around 15 hours of driving. I checked for a casino midpoint where I would have comps, and as good fortune would have it, Harrahs North Kansas City was only 520 miles away, and I had a free room. B agreed, so we set out for that early afternoon. These were by far the sweetest digs of the trip.

Also a little pokers!

The last leg was brutal, but we finally arrived in BG about 10PM. Home for 2 weeks straight, and our next job will be in Lexington. We plan to work our days then come home every week.

I forgot some windmills I snapped in CO and KS. I was pretty fascinated by those!

Glad you made it back Clint. That was one tough haul. What did you do to your knee? Surgery needed?

thanks all!

Chuck, I just sprained it mildly, and thankfully, it's ok now. I think it was a combo of being cramped in the Altima, not much legroom, sleeping poorly at night, and that brutal hike straight up that rock face to the arch.

No that would be one hell of a story:scared

By the way 6/5 you see tons of those wind turbines all over Canada, nice clean energy. Only thing that it sucks for is the birds, yes it is great for the environment and yes tons of other positives, but birds love to fly into them. I guess they get to close and get sucked in:shrug:

Glad to hear it! I wondered what happened to u and your Vegas plans. We did need to be closer to home, and that is the reason for coming back. We are probably going back next year, but what the future holds for us is a big unknown now. Again, I'm glad you're happy now! :toast:

I think the windmills are great. I like to be somewhat "green", so I'm all for energy sources not based on fossil fuels. I have been all over Canada though, and I haven't seen any there. I'm also surprised they have enough force to suck in and kill birds?
