Here we are again?after great wins against the N.C. State Wolfpack, and the Maryland Terrapins, we meet a better team in the Virginia Cavaliers. This game will be our toughest road game to date. Virginia comes into this game being 3-4 (2-1 in ACC play). Duke leads a two game winning streak in the ACC with a record of 4-3(2-1 in the ACC.)
Virginia Cavaliers have a balanced offense, Averaging 100 yards a game rushing and around 200 yards passing. They don?t have an explosive offense averaging about 22 points per game. 11 of their 16 offensive touchdowns have come from the rushing game the other 5 obviously the passing game. They have three different running backs. J. Sewell who has 333 yards and 4 TD?s, M. Simpson who on the year has 260 yards and 5 TD?s and R. Jackson who has 205 yards and 1 TD. Sewell who is more of a mobile Quarterback has 1,261 passing yards on the year with 5 Td?s. Virginia offensively comes out and scores in the first part of the game and slows the longer the game goes. They have outscored their opponents 46-10 in the first quarter of there games.
Virginia?s defense has only allowed about 20 ppg. They have a great defensive lineman in Nick Collins who on the year has 3.0 sacks, and 6.0 TFL. If Duke can give Lewis time to deliver the ball or give him a space where he can scramble this could quiet the pressure and more blitz?s for quick easy throws. Virginia is prided on discipline. They will not give it to you; Duke will have to earn this win. They convert 95% of the time in the red zone which should be expected, but in the 7 games so far this season, have only had 8 penalties that have cost them first downs. They are very disciplined and Thaddeus Lewis will have to be accurate because he won?t get help with pass interference penalties. For Duke to pull this win out, crucial stops must happen and fluent time depleting drives will be key to this victory. They must take this crowd out of it early and keep close and hopefully do what they did last year; beat Virginia 31-3. Expect a hard fought game by both teams.
