Year to date: 41-23 (64.1 percent) ATS

Matchup: Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints
Spread: Saints minus-3

Public consensus pick: 51 percent picked Saints

Public perception: This is pretty much a 50-50 split, though I've seen other sites have the public siding with the Eagles.
Both teams have underachieved so far, though only the Eagles have been contemplating a change at quarterback.
Wiseguys' view: This is another case where the wiseguys grabbed the plus-3.5 before it disappeared. The worst unit on the field appears to be the Saints' defense, which is last in the NFL in yards allowed per game.
Tuley's take: I'm happy the Eagles haven't thrown in the towel and benched Michael Vick, as he should have a field day against the Saints' D (or lack thereof) and it wouldn't have been fair to let Nick Foles play against them and have everyone say, "See, Vick was the problem." I just hope the Saints don't reinstitute the bounty program (joking!).

The pick: Eagles.

Where the Action is: NFL Mid-Week Line Moves

Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints ? Open: Saints -3.5, Move: -3

Two struggling franchises take the Monday night spotlight, with the early money coming in on the Eagles and moving to the key number of a field goal.

?The sharks bit hard on this one at 3.5,? says Perry, ?dropping the number to 3. Money is virtually down the middle, with 51 percent on the Saints.?

?First home game for regular N.O.
interim coach Joe Vitt. Is it an omen that a hurricane (Sandy) caused the
postponement of this week?s scheduled appeals hearing in the Saints? bounty
case? At least that?s good news for formerly-suspended LB Jonathan Vilma, as
N.O. can use all the defensive help it can get. Saints only 1-2 SU at home TY,
but 10-2 vs. the spread their last 12 as host. Michael Vick, from his days with
the Falcons, is used to playing on the fast indoor track in the Superdome. He
avoided any turnovers last week, but the big-play promise he offered in his early
starts with the Eagles has diminished substantially, with his performances from
the pocket becoming increasingly disappointing. Under new defensive
coordinator Todd Bowles last week, Philly allowed Atlanta to score on its first six
drives. In a choice between struggling teams led by Vick & Drew Brees, will side
with Brees. Saints ?over? 8-3 last 11 at home.

NEW ORLEANS (-3?) Philadelphia (52?) 7:40 PM
Some saw these teams meeting in the playoffs but as it stands this could be
an elimination game between two of the NFC?s most disappointing teams.
New Orleans historically is outstanding at home but the Saints have lost at
home twice this season. Questions and potential changes continue to mount
for Philadelphia with three straight losses with last week?s coming in a home
blowout. Which squad is more dysfunctional is the question but the Saints
can score, with last week?s mile high debacle the exception.

New Orleans over Philadelphia by 4 (Monday)

There are different ways to spin the Eagles? 3-4 season. On the one hand, the
Eagles could be 5-2 if not for losing on the final play to the Steelers and Lions.
However, they also could be 0-7 having won their three games by a combined four
points. There is no positive way to spin a Saints defense that has allowed at least
400 yards in every game and is well on pace to giving up the most yards in a single
season. Home-field on Monday night and the Eagles being minus nine in
turnover ratio are big pluses for New Orleans, but Drew Brees has to play at the
highest level to carry a weak ground game and sieve-like defense. NEW

Philadelphia SERIES: 5-1 L6 A? 7-0 A w/ rev vs opp off DD SU loss
NEW ORLEANS 7-0 SU L7 Monday? 1-12 HF?s < 12 pts off DD SU loss

-------------------

NEW ORLEANS over Philadelphia by 1

In looking over the fi nancial stat sheet for the Saints this season, one
would insist Hurricane Sandy took a hard left and landed upon New
Orleans rather than the northeast. Thanks to a league-worst 476-yard
defense, a ruinous 2-5 SUATS effort is what shows for 2012. It?s a sad sight
when you see a 421-yard effort being the BEST performance this season
to date. In fact, going back to the playoffs last season, New Orleans has
coughed up 24 or more points, and over 400 yards, in nine straight games.
OMG. Who?s minding the ship? Oh, we forgot. Roger Goodell took care of
that. On the other side of the fi eld, the Eagles have their own problems,
riding a 3-game losing skid while being outstatted over 90 yards in each
of the three contests. When push comes to shove in a matchup of two
major disappointments, the best course of action is to take the points. It?s
not hard in this case, not with Philly owning137 YPG the better ?D?. Add
to that the Eagles? 8-0 ATS ledger in games off back-to-back losses when
taking on a losing opponent, and its 7-0 ATS road record when seeking
revenge against a foe off a double-digit loss, and you get our drift.
Considering the Saints were 1-12 ATS as home favorites of less than 12
points in games off a double-digit loss when they were a decent team, the
points become the play here tonight. Don?t forget, this only the second
time Andy Reid will be taking points this season. He cashed when getting
them earlier ? against Pittsburgh.

Philadelphia 30 - NEW ORLEANS 27

- (8:35 - ESPN) -- These 2 teams played
a fantastic divisional playoff game here in '06, with the Saints prevailing 27-24.
Saints in off total destruction (34-14) at the hands of the Broncos: 29-14 FD &
530-252 yd deficits. Brees managed another 2 TDs, pushing his record for a TD
pass now at 50 straight games. But that's about it. N'awlins fields the worst "D"
in the NFL. Thus a welcome spot for struggling Eagles, who have a 420-241 RY
deficit the last 3 wks. And check the mercurial Vick: just 9/8 for the year. The
dog is on an 11-4 spread run in Saint games, & is 6-0-1 in Eagle contests so far.

Desperation challenge

Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints (Monday, 8:30 p.m., ESPN). The Eagles are sticking with Michael Vick as their starting quarterback, sensing his arms, legs and speedy weapons?namely LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson?are what they need to burn a bad all-around Saints defense in a must-win game on a fast track. But Philadelphia's defense is the bigger concern here against Drew Brees, who is loaded with a better arsenal and can pick the Eagles? back seven apart. The equally desperate Saints will deliver the more efficient performance.

Prediction: Saints 34, Eagles 27

Millionaire's Club Football -

Monday Night Football Gridiron Showdown
Football NFL
Game Date/Time: November 5, 2012, 5:30 pm(PST) Matchup: Philadelphia Eagles @ New Orleans Saints

Take: New Orleans Saints

Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints ...MILLIONAIRES...Take new orleans Both Philadelphia and New Orleans are coming off of disappointing losses in week eight. The Saints were beat-up on the road 34-14 by the Denver Broncos and the Eagles lost at home 30-17 to the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints offense is showing up each week led by Drew Brees who now has 2,310 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. The New Orleans offense may have several Pro-Bowlers come seasons end. They need offense as their defense is the worst ever! If there was maybe any positive, if any, to look at for the Saints defense is the development and production of Galette at defensive end. But I'd still rather be in the Saints lockerroom. There are really no distractions and no sign of pressure under the leadership of Drew Brees. It's as if each member of the team has each other's back. New Orleans assistant head coach Joe Vitt is back on the sidelines leading the Saints for week eight after serving his six-game suspension. Other the other side of the field are the Eagles. For Mike Vick and head coach Andy Reid, this game may be the last chance for both to prove they are still worthy of leading the Eagles. Vick has 9 fumbles, 5 of which have been lost, along with 8 interceptions and has been sacked 20 times. This may be a chance for the Saints to actually have their way with on defense. Jason Babin leads the team with just 2.5 sacks and as a team they only have 9 total sacks, ranking them 31st in the NFL in that category which certainly bodes well for Brees for the Saints.

Accuscore

Philadelphia Eagles vs New Orleans Saints

Both the New Orleans and Philadelphia enter this Monday Night showdown desperate to turn around their disappointing seasons. The Saints are coming off an embarrassing 34-14 loss to the Broncos, while the Eagles enter after a 30-17 loss to th Falcons. Philadelphia coach Andy Reid decided not to make any quarterback changes and will stick with Michael Vick, at least for one more game. AccuScore simulations project a New Orleans victory 65 percent of the time with an average score of 30-24. The Saints cover the -3 spread 57 percent of the time, and get a big win (10 points or more) approximately 42 percent of the time.

The Saints offense currently ranks fifth in total yards per game (388.6 yards). Although they are first in passing yards (316 per game), they are last in rushing yards (72.6 per game). The Eagles are ranked 10th in rush defense. With Darren Sproules out due to a broken hand, the Saints? ground attack will suffer even more. According to ESPN, ?in the last two seasons, the versatile Sproles leads all running backs in third-down receptions and yards per touch.? The Saints are known for their pass first, everything else last approach, making the ground game a low priority when discussing this game.

What the Saints lack on the ground is compensated for with their passing game. This season, quarterback Drew Brees has thrown for 2,310 yards, 20 touchdowns and 8 interceptions with a QB rating of 93.0. He will be looking to bounce back after a subpar performance last week when he completed only half his attempts and threw for a season-low 213 yards. AccuScore simulations project 315 yards, at least two scores, and a QB rating of 98.2.

Brees? favorite targets all season have been wide receiver Marques Colston (40 receptions, 580 yards, 5 TDs), and tight end Jimmy Graham (30 receptions, 315 yards, 4 TDs). Eagle cornerback Nhamdi Asomugha will most likely cover Colston, a matchup that favors Asomugha due to Colston?s lack of speed. Graham, who caught 5 balls for 63 yards and a touchdown in last week?s game against Denver, is a matchup nightmare for the Philadelphia defense. AccuScore projects 74 yards and 58 yards for Colston and Graham respectively. Although the Saints? offense struggled against Denver?s secondary, it will have a much better performance against the Eagles who have struggled to defend the pass.

On the other side, we have a Philly team desperate to quiet the critics. Their best shot at the win will come from running the ball. New Orleans ranks 31st in the league in run defense (second last), giving up over 170 yards per contest. LeSean McCoy, the Eagles' Pro Bowl running back, has 504 yards rushing on 127 carries along with 28 receptions for 134 yards. McCoy is a threat on every single play, and with Vick?s propensity to turn the ball over, the Eagles might as well let McCoy run wild. Let him carry it 25-30 times against the horrendous New Orelans rush defense. AccuScore simulations project 90 rushing yards on 17 carries for McCoy.

The Saints pass defense (30th in the NFL) is almost as bad as their rush defense; the secondary has failed them countless times this season and is becoming known for giving up big plays. Last week, Peyton Manning destroyed the Saints with 305 yards, three touchdowns, and best of all, no interceptions. While Vick is no Manning, he does have some targets down the field that are big-time threats. Vick has passed for 1,823 yards (59 percent completion rate), nine touchdowns, eight interceptions while rushing for 247 yards and one score. DeSean Jackson, who leads the league in catch rate, is the Eagles' leading receiver with 34 catches and 524 yards. AccuScore simulations project 66 yards on 4 receptions for Jackson. Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who doesn?t hold on to the ball nearly as well as Jackson, is projected to catch the ball 5 times for 62 yards.

How well Vick and McCoy perform will depend largely on the offensive line. Last week against the Falcons, Philadelphia?s offensive line allowed three more sacks and McCoy rushed for just 45 yards on 16 carries. It could be understandable if complex packages are causing trouble, but it has been basic defensive schemes Given that the Saints have not held an opponent to less than 27 points all season, this is the perfect game for the Eagles to turn things around offensively. AccuScore simulations project 254 yards and a QB rating of 98.2 for Vick.

It?s tough to pick a winner for this one. Philly?s offense (on paper) should have its way with the New Orleans defense. At the same time, we might be in for another multiple turnover game from Vick.

I?m going to stick to AccuScore?s forecast and take the Saints. Score prediction: 28-24.
