The most reliable sign I have seen for when spring will arrive is when robins start coming in in flocks.
Normally this happens 1st couple weeks in march but all ready coming in here in Ky--a good sign for golfers:)

They don't leave here either--some are always around--its just when they come in droves and you look out in yard and might be 20 to 30 at same time--that I'm talking about.
Ditto on ducks/geese leaving and coming--they seem to have 6th sense about the weather.

others--read where in old days (yes before my time) that settlers use to predict storms with jars of bear fat. Part of fat was dark an settled at bottom and lighter part stayed on top. When this reversed they knew storm was coming---was later proven that color of fat was related to density and used same principle as modern day barometer.

anyone got any to add?

No robins here, just a last blast of winter with a couple inches of snow. I wouldn't put much stock in the geese, those lazy fuks stay here year round.
