GuRu,I went to the ECU-Rice game sat. nite.It was parents weekend and he goes to ECU.It was a great game.Pickney ECU's qb looked great. They have no running game.Pickney threw for over 300yds.But ECU defense was terrible.Rice ran all over them.On 4 or 5 occasions Rice had a 3rd 9,3rd and 13,3rd and 15 and they got the 1st down everytime.Rice was leading with about 15 seconds on the clock.Pickney threw a 50 yd pass just before the half to take the lead.
ECU defense was bad though. But Rice's pass coverage was even worse.
Not sure about Smoo. But ECU defense cannot play like it did on sat.Their offense bailed them out vs Rice.

buddy,he did and he is one of the best Wr's in the country. What hands. The softest hands I've ever seen. He's only 6'0 but he can get up.He's the one who caught the bomb before half.He actually dropped a ball on an easy pass and the ECU fans cheered him. He's human.Holtz also used him on a lot of decoys. And he's a great blocker down field.
Thats all my son has talked about. He kept saying "dad wait until you see Aundrea". I think he was a JC all american lyr. Rice played him one on one and he had over 100yds and a TD.I know Wake Forest doubled teamed him.
The game was exciting to watch. The lead changed hands 3 or 4 times. But the ECU defense couldn't stop the Rice running game and then on those long 3rd downs everyone knew the pass was coming and Rice does not pass. But they completed those long passes and guys were wide open.
Not sure about Smoo's defense.Game could be a lot like the Rice game. Both offenses dominate and the defenses can't stop anyone.

GAME NOTES: A set of schools shooting for their third win of the season tangle
at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas this Saturday, as the East Carolina
Pirates square off with the SMU Mustangs in Conference USA action. The Pirates
enter the contest on a high note, as they defeated Rice 41-28 last weekend.
The win snapped a three-game slide and improved the team to 2-3 overall and an
even 1-1 in league play. ECU now hits the road where it is currently 0-2 on
the young season. As for SMU, it posted its first C-USA win ever last weekend
with a dramatic last second 28-27 triumph at UAB. The victory put an end to a
three-game slide and pushed the Mustangs to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in league
play. The Ponies now return home where they are 1-2, but that lone win did
come against then nationally-ranked TCU. Saturday's game will be the first-
ever meeting between ECU and SMU on the gridiron.

The Pirates had their way with Rice last weekend, as they racked up 459 yards
of total offense en route to a 41-28 victory. James Pinkney led the way by
throwing for 355 yards and three touchdowns on 22-of-34 pass attempts. It was
another solid outing for Pinkney, who has completed 61.5 percent of his throws
for 1288 yards this season. He has eight 11 total touchdowns (eight passing)
to his credit with just two interceptions. Aundrae Allison has provided
Pinkney with an open target on a consistency basis and leads the team with 39
catches for 573 yards and five touchdowns. Last weekend, Allison put together
another solid outing and finished with seven receptions, for 109 yards and a
score. As for the team's ground attack, which is averaging a modest 113.4 ypg,
it is led by Chris Johnson and his 332 rushing yards. Johnson however, was
held in check by Rice last weekend and posted a dismal three yards on 13
carries. Overall, the Pirates are averaging a respectable 24.2 ppg, while
gaining a solid 371.4 total ypg.

On the defensive side of the ball is where the Pirates have struggled this
season, as they are giving up 29.2 ppg and 378.8 total ypg. The unit has all
sorts of trouble against the run and is allowing 219.0 rushing ypg with 11
touchdowns. In last weekend's win over Rice, the Pirates' defense was abused
for 230 yards on the ground and four touchdowns, although they gave up just 87
yards through the air. ECU didn't force a turnover in the contest, but did
manage three sacks. Chris Moore paced the defense with nine stops, while
Marcus Hands added seven stops and two sacks. Moore currently leads the club
with 48 stops, while Hands' five sacks are tops on the team.

Bobby Chase pulled in a 31-yard touchdown pass from Jerad Romo as time
expired, lifting the Mustangs to a 28-27 victory over UAB last weekend. It was
certainly a dramatic win for SMU, which racked up 413 total yards in the
winning effort. Romo accounted for many of those yards, throwing for 333 yards
and two scores on 30-of-43 passing. It was clearly the best performance of the
year for Romo, who had thrown for just 652 and three touchdowns in his first
five games combined. Chase not only pulled in the game-winning catch, but he
also finished with a team-high five receptions for 82 yards. Chase has been
Romo's target of choice this season and currently leads the club with 18
receptions for 339 yards and three touchdowns. DeMyron Martin also got into
the mix last weekend, as he rushed for 72 yards and one score on just 10
carries. The solid outing was encouraging for Martin, who had rushed for just
191 yards in the team's first five games. As a team, the Mustangs are gaining
just 94.0 ypg on the ground, while airing out to the tune of 177.3 ypg.

Defensively, the Ponies have had some trouble slowing down their opponents and
are giving up 29.6 ppg and 427.8 total ypg. Although the defense has nine
interceptions to its credit, the 268.0 passing ypg it is allowing certainly
needs to be improved upon. In the team's last game, SMU was burnt for 417
total yards, including 344 yards via the pass. The defense however, came up
with some big plays and forced three UAB turnovers. Joe Sturdivant accounted
for two of those turnovers with interceptions and also recovered a fumble. He
also added four tackles, giving him a team-high 54 for the season.

Neither team is expected to have too much success this season, but with a win
this Saturday either squad will take a step in the right direction. ECU has
shown that it has the offense to compete in every game, but it needs more from
its lagging defense. With another big game from Pinkney and company, the
Pirates should be able to outlast a rather dismal SMU club this Saturday.
