"the bunker"
i was looking over the oscar diaz/delvin rodriguez match-up and came upon ebo elder`s record.....

i looked at 2004,before he was was almost killed in several fights(in particular, a winning effort vs courtney burton, one of the most amazing fights i`ve ever seen).......

look at the number of fights elder fought in 2004....and the really odd thing is,that HIS FATHER manged his career...

he was coming off around a 3 year layoff and fought 6 times! in 2004...some vs reasonably tough competition...

2004-01-23 138 Tyrone Wiggins 138 5-10-0

................................

2004-12-17 134? Courtney Burton 135 21-2-0
Chumash Casino, Santa Ynez, California, United States W TKO 12 12
~ time: 2:10 | referee: Jerry Cantu | judge: Raul Caiz | judge: Marty Denkin 104-104 | judge: Chuck Hassett ~
~ WBO NABO lightweight title ~
.......................

to be fair,it looked like he fought an easier fight in between the tough ones, but still...he casically had to be training nearly year round...

it caught my attention because i`ll never forget the burton fight....i thought both guys could have died in the ring that night....and obviously, neither were ever the same...

after looking at this,i see why elder was so used up by the burton fight.....

it was almost like his father wanted to destroy his son...

wasn`t aware he had all those fights in such a short time frame...

it struck me as very unusual...

Ebo was a very fast fighter (southpaw) and dominated Oscar Diaz and a very tough Fernando Trejo. The Burton fight hurt him but then he was stopped in another grueling contest against Mongolian Lavka Sim which probably diminished him further. And to add insult to injury, he was stopped by Mike " what a joke" Stewart on season 2 of the Contender series. And he hasn't fought since that loss.

Ebo should never fight again...too many beatings

The Burton fight was indeed one of the most brutal fights I have ever seen

right up there with Corrales-Castillo 1 and Nigel Benn-Gerald Mclellan

Vicious and scary by the end of it

Thats what happens when you have guys who usually fight at 135, stepping up to fight guys who usually weigh 147. This situation was a constant for the contender series, every year you had guys fighting way above their weight b/c they wanted their 15 minutes of fame. Two years ago they had Michael Clark fighting Cor.Bundrage...lol. Clark spent most of his career at 135, and Bundrage was stepping down from 154. Needless to say, Clark schooled him for 5 rounds but the much bigger Bundrage dropped Clark in the last round to win a Split decision (5 round fight)

I'd like to see the contender show continue as its good for boxing creating new fans. But if they can't find 15 guys inside the same weight class to compete then it shouldn't be allowed to continue.

And yes, I've heard the arguement that these guys know what they're getting into and are willing to step up in weight to make a name for themselves. Its been said that they make their own decision to be on the show and therefore deserve what comes of it

I think some ppl will do anything for money and fame, no matter how dangerous, and therefore sometimes other ppl need to step in and keep it from happening

Just my opinion
