Hudson Valley area.....NY
Manhattan -4 over Fordham.
This is a rivalry game. It's the battle of the Bronx.Fordham comes in here playing very inconsistent at 4-4 but just beat B-10 Northwestern by 3 the other day.Manhattan has won 7 in a row after the Cuse loss in the Dome.Hill has all sorts of infighting going on with his team.On top of that Jaspers beat the Johnnies by double digits as the rams lost to them by 9.But the key to the rams demise is their TO's.They have 178 in 8 games. In their last 4 games they have 34,23,21 and 19.Smush parker is their frosh pt gd and he is awesome.Of course he needs to cut down the TO's but he has been the best Fordham player. He shoots the 3,leads in assits, scoring, etc.Inside they have McMillan and McKammy but he was recently benched.Johnson and Wright both avg 9-10 pts a game.Like Hill said the other day'we have poor team chemistry'.But this is a talented group of players.
Gonzalez the Jaspers coach is crazy. One of the funniest people to hear and watch. He has his kids playing outstanding ball.
Flores has taken over this team.He avg in HS 35 pts a game but had a bad rep.He ended up at Rutgers and transferred. He is the 2nd best player in NYC behind the Johnnies Hatten.Flores avg 19 a game, rebounds, passes, etc.Green is the pt gd and almost as good as Smush.Holmes and Jackette are solid scorers and defenders.
Bobby will press the rams as soon as they get out of the lockeroom tonite.
I like the Jaspers here because they are playing together, like to run the ball, and play better defense.Rams inside game is a little bit better but gd play dominates tonite.
Not a big play because of the old rivalry.I was at the '63 game when a bottle went flying over my head aimed at Larry Lembo. He was my hero.My father is a Mahattan graduate. And his biggest disappointment in life is when I "booked" to North Texas St.

Iona +9 over the Hall
Seton Hall is so inconsistent. They play on the level of who their playing.Play Mich St,they will play tough.Play Wagner and Fairfield and you lose one and win the other by a few pts.lost also to lasalle.
Orr no offense is not a very good coach.Lane shoots whenever he wants to.No one under the bds and he sends them downtown. In fact Lane has 28 total pts in his last 3 games.Hall has shot 57 tre's in last 2 games. They were 9-27 and 10-30.manga is 7'0 tall and shoots fade aways.Ty Shine is still bitch'in about not starting.I think someone else might give him another "shiner".Morton is back under the bds.Allen is playing tough and is one of the top frosh in the country. But barrett has been playing unreal. He's scoring, passing, penetrating. He breaks the press and makes them go.
Iona has won 4-5 after their bad start.I've been saying it here. They are a lot better.Wilson is their top player and he has been in a shooting slump.Fields and Norris are playing well. But they turnover the ball a lot with a frosh pt gd in Brown.
Hall has so much more talent and heralded players from the metro area.Iona has the kids that the Hall looked at in HS but said "no thanks".Iona doesn't get to the garden very often.Hall plays there and at the meadowlands.I see Ruland giving his old buddy Orr a good game and this Iona kids stepping it up tonite.
I also see Lane watching in the stands to see if any scouts are there.because he will then be gunning the ball.

Miami +2 over LSU.
Like the canes here. They rebound better, play better defense, and have 5 starters that can play.LSU has more overall talent with 2 outstanding gds in Temple and Bright. But Salmons and Rice are a little better and if NO's just beat LSU by 1 wait until they see the cane defense at work

Bama-ND
To hard to capp.I spent mucho time on this game.Have to pass. Two outstanding freshmen pt gds lead them.maybe a slight egde because of the "greyhound" theory to bama. But as soon as I hit submitt on this thread I like the ND shooters better.

A few small plays I'll throw in a parlay or 2 are,
Vir Tech +6
Dukies +7.5 over Clev
Wisky and Bo to beat up his old team Wisky-Mil

Nice write-up.

Like Manhattan and Miami too.

IMO too much talent for Seton Hall and too many turnovers will give The Hall the cover.

Hall hopes to own Iona

SPECIAL TO THE BERGEN RECORD

A year ago, Louis Orr and Jeff Ruland were friendly foes in the same conference.

Orr's Siena Saints won both regular-season encounters against Ruland's Iona Gaels, but once the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament began, Siena was bounced early and the path was cleared for Iona to capture the title and automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.

Orr and Ruland will again oppose each other tonight when Seton Hall (6-4) faces Iona (4-7) in the second game of the Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden. Manhattan and Fordham meet in the 6:30 p.m. opener.

Last season's memories may be all too fresh for Ruland, whose Gaels fell twice to Siena, 100-71 and 81-79. Maybe that's why Ruland recently talked about tonight's game as being a Herculean challenge, apparently unaware of the Pirates' roller-coaster tendency of matching their opponent's level. Or maybe Ruland, a jokester as much as a coach, was just setting Iona up for a no-lose situation.

"We're going to have to play as close to a perfect game as possible even to have an opportunity to win,'' Ruland said. "We can use as much luck as we can. I'll have a rabbit's foot, a four-leaf clover, and a few prayers.''

Orr, however, is fully aware of the challenge Iona could pose to Seton Hall, which has lost two straight and is coming off Saturday's 68-64 setback to Michigan State. The Gaels have won four-of-five since opening the season with six straight losses. They took third place in the Rainbow Classic last week, losing to Hawaii and defeating Holy Cross and Miami (Ohio).

"I just know that Jeff's teams always play hard, get after you, and play with a lot of confidence,'' Orr said. "They play with the kind of character that their coach has. You've got to be tough-minded. You know you're going to be in a game for 40 minutes. They're going to keep coming at you.''

If the first 11 games are a fair barometer, Iona will also fail to protect the basketball. The Gaels, directed by freshman point guard Solomon Brown, are averaging a staggering 19.6 turnovers a game.

"We're young and dumb right now,'' Ruland said.

Meanwhile, Seton Hall's offense of late has consisted of point guard Andre Barrett and little else. The sophomore has scored at least 20 points in four straight games, registering 24 against the Spartans and averaging a team-high 17.5 points per game. He has also collected 57 assists against only 30 turnovers.

On the other end of the scoring spectrum is senior guard Darius Lane. In the last three games Lane has scored just 28 points and been inconsistent with his normally solid outside shot.

Should Seton Hall face Manhattan in either the championship or consolation game Friday night, Orr will face one of his former colleagues in coach Bobby Gonzalez. In his third season with the Jaspers, Gonzalez, like Orr, was a longtime assistant under Pete Gillen. Orr and Gonzalez began coaching together at Xavier in the early Nineties.

"When I first got to Xavier, I saw seven or eight guys following Louis around campus like puppy dogs,'' Gonzalez said. "Young people tend to follow Louis because he's about the right things.''

Manhattan has already beaten St. John's and Hofstra this season. Two wins in the Garden and it can claim the unofficial title as the New York area's top team.

"As far as being the best team in New York, I don't know,'' Gonzalez said. "We have a lot more to prove if we're going to be the best team in New York.''

According to Orr, Gonzalez has already proven to be a capable head coach.

"He's a competitive person and has a great feel for young people in terms of communicating,'' Orr said. "Seeing him evolve into where he is now is a great story and a blessing for him. When you work for a guy like Pete [Gillen], who allows you to do so many things, it provides a great opportunity to grow.''

loophole, you just don't who is going to show up with either team. But your right about FSU laying that many. Both these teams are the doormats of the BE and ACC.
