this is in response to a post which showed ignorance about its current state by DMurphy

1. Currently we are able to harvest less than 9% of the oil we pump. New technologies are arising to turn this 9% upward.

2. We have approximately 50 years left of oil using this 9% in our current reserves. Consider that we will be able to harvest more of it and also that we will find more reserves this number should be extended somewhat.

3. We are very close to technology making the need for oil obsolete.

4. Oil is high right now in large part due to hurricanes in the gulf. We should see a decrease in the price in the near future. Because demand is also increased due in large part to China, $1 gas will most likely never happen again....live with it.

5. The Middle East must be stabilized. THat is the point of what we are doing now. No matter who is president, we will go on this same path. It will cost lives but we have to have it stable. Other countries, corrupt as they are, will sit there and watch us do their work as they always do.

In ANY talk about oil, one must realize the above. I have connections to people in the industry who outlined the above. Seems to make sense.....if anyone else has any thoughts...chime in.

Otherwise, outrageous statements and unbased claims stay away.

In response to:

1) the new technologies you speak of are expensive
2) which reserves are you talking about? you are using the very high end estimations of oil which (as stated in #1) are very difficult to "harvest". reasonable estimations which avoid major price increases has our reserves at 3-5 years.
3) then lets stop being sold out to oil already! however close we are - we took steps backwards under bush. can't wait til we stop dying for every last drop.
4) China demand will only increase - same with India - same with the rest of the developing world. Prices will increase. Prices SHOULD be even higher right now. Something's fishy when: At $40/barrel - retail was $2.50/gallon. Now at $50/barrel it's still $2.50?? expect huge increases soon.
5) Yes - we've done great things to stabilize the ME. Are you kidding?????>?

People in the industry who are pro-oil have an agenda. I'm sure we could get in a massive link war over this.
