President-elect Barack Obama's newly appointed chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, served on the board of directors of the federal mortgage firm Freddie Mac at a time when scandal was brewing at the troubled agency and the board failed to spot "red flags," according to government reports reviewed by ABCNews.com. According to a complaint later filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Freddie Mac, known formally as the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, misreported profits by billions of dollars in order to deceive investors between the years 2000 and 2002.

Emanuel was not named in the SEC complaint ) but the entire board was later accused by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) of having "failed in its duty to follow up on matters brought to its attention."

This is why it is important we keep an eye on this guy. So far he is not off to a good start in my opinion. First voting for the bail out and then picking this guy.

:toast: Something the neo-con righties will never understand Stevie. I will be the first one to rip Obama if it is warranted. Unlike those ass kissers. Im still pissed that Obama signed that spying act. Lets see if he does anything about it when he gets in office. This is the type of stuff we need to go after and not this petty shit the neo-con thinkers are pointing out. Blaming ridiculous shit on Obama already. You better believe if he turns this economy around these nut bags will say Bush jr handed him a climbing economy.

We got in this mess because we have a ton of guys who followed where ever Bush took us. We are called partisan because we point out his mistakes. But as you can see we are already holding Obama to the fire. You guys still are giving Bush a pass.

You wouldn't be upset with him because Daily Kos don't like him--would you stevie :)

It's important to not confuse partisanship with ideology. Emanuel is a strong partisan who fights hard for the Democratic Party - but he's basically a centrist, a pragmatist who believes the party can't succeed if it's pulled too far to the left.

This is a cause of distress on the left. A straw poll by the left-wing blog, Daily Kos, gave Emanuel a 58 percent disapproval rating. Emanuel has called the liberal activist group Moveon.org - responsible for such divisive tactics as calling Gen. David Petraeus "General Betray-Us" - ineffective.

Quoting the NY Post again, huh? I saw that earlier as well. Usually you're pretty good about posting sources, but you seem to have a blindspot for the Post.

I think it was pretty fair of their Editorial Board to give Barry high marks for this choice.
