After this weekend, reasoning that here is no need to play the rest of the season out, ESPN has released its Final Standings for the 2008 NCAA Men's Football (American) season. The BCS quickly followed up with a memo stating their full support and agreement with ESPN and issued a statement on how good a job ESPN is doing, except for that Mel Kiper guy. The AP issued it's own statement of agreement, but reiterated that they came to their conclusions independently and, in fact, earlier than ESPN.
1. USC (the one on the left). With Southern Cal's complete annihilation of Ohio State this weekend, they have been crowned BCS champion in an unprecedented 6 (or so)-peat.
2. Ohio State. Ohio State finished number 2, as USC would clearly beat the Sooners (as well as every other college team in history and all but the pre-injury Pats in the NFL), and OSU would beat everyone else in the Big MAC.
3. Notre Dame. At number 3 is the feel-good story of the year with Notre Dame, who having beaten Michigan are given credit for beating the rest of the Big MAC as well AND, because we love 'em, had the years under Gerry Faust stricken from the record.
4. Oklahoma. OU comes in at number 4, seeing as their only loss would come against their only Div 1A* opponent this year - USC (who are GREAT and may be the best team in history - they'd easily beat the '29 Yankees 4-0 and clear those fountains at Caesar's on a mini-bike, they're so good).
5. Florida. Winding up the top 5 is Florida, who in spite of possibly going undefeated, wouldn't have had a chance against any of the top four (especially USC, who will be swimming the Pacific in an exibition on January 1) and are, after all, the really annoying with that gator-clap thing.
* Its Division 1A, by God. The other one is Division 1AA. End of story.
