Outright plays (1pt):

Alex Cejka to win 20/1 e.w. available generally
Cejka was in contention for a wildcard selection for the Ryder Cup team, but he was always a longshot and he shouldn't be too dejected this week and he really couldn't have thought that he would be selected ahead of Monty, Donald, Jacobson and co. And he is playing very well at the moment. Not only did he finish 3rd last week, but he finished 9th in the NEC Invitational and 2nd in the International four weeks ago. Add in his course form - three top-6 finishes in his last five visits - and his very impressive record in Europe - a win and no finish worse than 13th place in the last two years (8 starts) - and it should only be fatigue that would prevent him from contending this week.

Angel Cabrera to win 20/1 e.w. @ BetInternet, Victor Chandler, UKBetting, BetDirect and Totalbet
Away from the pressures of Ryder Cup selection and the last two selections have had the benefit of at least a week's rest. Cabrera is one of the best players on the European Tour and could draw inspiration from the fact that fellow countrymen, Eduardo Romero and Ricardo Gonzalez, have both won this event. He has improved in each of his last four visits to finish 10th last time and if there is any Ryder Cup race hangover, Cabrera is certainly a likely beneficiary.

Michael Campbell to win 25/1 e.w. @ BetInternet and Victor Chandler
Cambo's form has been rather indifferent recently, though he did finish 2nd in the Scottish Open last month. He did not play in the NEC Invitational, so fatigue will certainly not be a problem and this is an event which, because of the altitude of the course, requires experience. Campbell has lots of experience here and that includes a top-15 finish in each of his last four visits, including a 2nd place finish last year.

Matchup plays (1pt unless stated):

Brian Davis to beat Robert Karlsson -125 @ Paddy Power
Davis' game suffered under the pressure of Ryder Cup qualification, so looking for a big improvement this week. He has finished behind Karlsson in their last two common events when under this pressure, but had previously been beaten only once in their ten common events this year.

Michael Campbell to beat Graeme McDowell -125 @ BlueSq
Playing at altitude at Crans-sur-Sierre needs experience and while McDowell has now played in this event once, he missed the cut by a long way last year; a marked contrast to Campbell's fine record here. Cambo also leads McDowell 10-4-0 h2h this year.

Luke Donald to beat Graeme McDowell -120 @ William Hill and Easybets [2pts]
Donald has no experience at Crans-sur-Sierre, but expecting the Ryder Cup wildcard selection to raise his game this week that he has been awarded his place in the Ryder Cup team. Both should be in the Ryder Cup team in 2006, but Donald is the better and more consistent player right now.

Eduardo Romero to beat Graeme McDowell -111 @ Paddy Power and Ladbrokes
A great course record and he has been beaten only once by McDowell in their eight common events this year, it is difficult to see Romero out of the top-20 this week.
(also available at Expekt, Five Dimes and Pinnacle)

Eduardo Romero to beat Ricardo Gonzalez -137 @ BlueSq
But Gonzalez could finish anywhere! A former winner, but still misses more cuts than he makes and it is no surprise that Romero has finished ahead of him in all six common events this year.

Thongchai Jaidee to beat Scott Drummond -125 @ Sportingbet and Sporting Odds
In ten common events this year, Drummond has finished ahead of Jaidee on only two occasions: at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits and at the Volvo PGA Championship which he won. He hasn't managed a top-50 finish in any event since that win in May so siding with Jaidee in this match of course rookies.

Steve Webster to beat Scott Drummond -110 @ BetInternet
Since Drummond's win at Wentworth, Webster has finished ahead of him in all five common events so there is little reason to expect things to change this week.

I know this is not really going out on a limb but I think Donald will pull this out.

Outrights - FINAL RESULT: 0-3; -3.00pts

Cejka wd
Cabrera 13th
Campbell 56th

Very poor from two of the selections. Just one bad round took Cabrera out of contention for the places, but he still finished 21 shots behind runaway winner, Luke Donald.

Matchups - FINAL RESULT: 5-2-0; +3.65pts

Davis/Karlsson WON by 10
Campbell/McDowell LOST by 14
Donald/McDowell WON by 7
Romero/McDowell WON by 1
Romero/Gonzalez WON by 12
Jaidee/Drummond WON by 1
Webster/Drummond LOST by 4

Good profit on the matchups with two close ones going the right way to cover the loss on the outrights.
