Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Bradley Dredge to win 20/1 e.w. @ Paddy Power, BetInternet and Boyle Sports [6 places]
Lost his chance for victory last week when starting the back nine on Sunday with three bogeys in four holes, but should have drawn some confidence from a very strong finish: he was the only player all week to birdie the last three holes. And but for some foul weather, he may have been the defending champion this week. He was four shots clear in the third round when the wintry conditions arrived - freezing temperatures, high winds and rain - and so dropped five shots in the last six holes to fall out of the lead that he had held since the first round. He have shown that he could master the Smurfit Course and looks well set to do so again this year.

Peter Hanson to finish in the top-five 10/1 @ Expekt
Hanson is another with a very good record in this country with finishes of 4th, 9th (on this course) and 7th in his last three visits. In the Irish Open last month, he had even been the first round leader after an opening 68 and he has maintained that good form in recent weeks: he finished 30th in the U.S. Open, 11th in the BMW International Open and was 2nd in the qualifier for the Open Championship at Sunningdale on Monday. In this form, he should have another very high finish in Ireland this week.

Martin Kaymer to win 66/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes, ToteSport and Coral
Maybe a place-only wager on Kaymer would be prudent, but he is getting closer to that maiden win on this Tour. His form since the Tour returned to Europe has been excellent, but he finished 14th having held the lead with one round to play in the Celtic Manor Wales Open last month and finished 7th having been in 3rd place with one round to play last week in the Open de France. He will win on this Tour as he has done on previous Tours and so remains value at these odds.

Paul Broadhurst to win 100/1 e.w. @ Boyle Sports [6 places]
It is only a month ago that Broadhurst was challenging for the title in the BMW PGA Championship (he held the lead with one round to play) and Celtic Manor Wales Open (he finished 8th having held the lead during the week) and more recently had been 3rd after the opening round of the BMW International Open, so this is quite a lengthening of his odds over the last month. With a course history that contains a top-10 finish (and having been 1st round leader) in 2004, I'd say there is value in these odds particularly with the extra place on offer.

Brad Dredge -125 over Richard Green (72)

Ive been hittin at like 50% on the euro this year (not good). Honestly I wouldn't recognize either one of these golfers. Dredge's form has been on point and has a good course history here. Green has struggled his last 2 events. We'll see what happens

Wanted to Place this story inside one of the threads...

Darren Clarke's caddie Billy Foster insists he has not been approached to start working full-time with world number one Tiger Woods next season.
New Zealander Steve Williams has caddied for Woods for eight years but is rumoured to be considering stepping down with Foster tipped to step in.

"A few rumours are flying around, but I've not been approached," said Foster.

"I wish I could say it was true because it's the best job in the world - better even than Tiger's."

Foster impressed Woods when he carried his bag for the 2005 Presidents Cup while Williams' fiancee - now his wife - gave birth.

"He's good at what he does. I've seen him work with Clarkey over the years and he's had some success," Woods said at the event.

"There were a couple of guys I was considering, but I like his personality. He's very competitive, very feisty and very similar to Stevie."

Williams took over in 1999 from Mike 'Fluff' Cowan and is considered to be one of New Zealand's highest-earning sportsmen.

Padraig Harrington -110 over Angel the Duck

Q. Did you play or practise at all while you were at home?
ANGEL CABRERA: No. The first time was here at the driving range.

Q. How did you hit it?
ANGEL CABRERA: Badly (Laughter).

Q. At the celebrations did you have a glass of wine or a beer?
ANGEL CABRERA: I drank everything.

Tiger's caddie denies rumor he's quitting

Steve Williams, who has caddied for Tiger Woods since 1999, denied rumors that he was considering stepping down from his post at the end of this year.

"A friend texted me about that from Europe," Williams said after Woods's round on Thursday. "I have no idea where that came from."

The BBC's Web site reported Wednesday on a rumor that Williams was considering moving on. The article also said that Billy Foster, Darren Clarke's caddie, was in line for the job, but Foster said no one had contacted him about it.

Pete Bender, who works for Aaron Baddeley and has been on Tour for 38 years, was skeptical of the story from the start.

"Why would Stevie hang it up?" Bender said on Thursday. "Stevie's not that old. They have such a great relationship, I don't see Stevie quitting. It's not like Tiger's giving him a lot of grief. It just doesn't make sense. Why would you turn down that bag when Tiger's playing only 15, maybe 20 times a year? Unless [Williams] is going to pursue his racing full time."

Although it seemed far-fetched, the rumor was juicy enough to create a bit of buzz among caddies at Congressional.

"I would do anything for that job, like anybody else," said Joe LaCava, the longtime caddie to Fred Couples who this week is working for a newly minted pro, Pablo Martin. "If anybody tells you differently, they're lying."

Indeed, it may only have been their job-survival instincts that prompted a handful of caddies, when asked about the hypothetical job opening, to profess undying allegiance to their employers. Said one anonymous looper, who is working for a major winner and Ryder Cup hero this week, "I'd take that call."
