Hello madjackers, hope you are enjoying the day. I read an article (I think it was the nytimes) last month that major retailers are more open than ever to price haggling given the current economy.

We just purchased our 1st home and now need to buy 2 fridges, washer, dryer, and tv. I figured this would give me a lot of leverage if I go somewhere and offer to buy it all from them, seeing as this is probably going to be maybe close to 10k before a discount.

I was wondering if any of you had any experience with the major chains (home depot, best buy, etc)? Or maybe you are on the other end of it and have experience as the seller. Also, how would you determine what you think the 'fair' retail price should be? I figured maybe I'd see what I could get online for each piece individually and add up the savings and propose that amount.

Thanks for the input!

Lowes and Home Depot will match prices and give 10% plus free financing. Won't hurt to try for more. GL!

i was going to mention lowes and HD as good places to buy appliances. get the TV some place else.

When I used to bartend there was a Best Buy directly across the street form the bar. The one manager used to come in quite often. He told that he was paged to the dvd area. When he got there, Ken Griffey Jr. was standing there holding about 15 dvd's and he asked him for a discount.

The manager told him no. This guy makes more cake than all of the people in the store combined and is axing for a discount.

Of course I don't want to meet you for a drink. The process servers wanted to know for the several malpractice suits that we need to serve upon you before you leave the jurisdiction.

Thought maybe you bought the house here in Cincinnati. Figured you were here just for a fly by. All kidding aside, you have just 2 1/2 months to buy me a beer. Or in the alternative, you can come back in August and play golf at Belterra.

If I recall correctly (and I always do) you were suppose to email me and set up a time and place (either downtown or in Hyde Park) to meet for a drink. You never did. I assume you were too busy anesthetizing young male patients, then fondling their genitalia.

Maybe, when you stop playing with there toys, we can meet in a well lit bar for one or two. Let me know pediatric molar man.
