i really feel bad for jermain taylor....he fought a smart, measured, tough fight vs a guy who`s style is just very difficult for him....

he stayed off the ropes, like he supposed to do.....he just fought a guy with a little better stamina and a little longer jab....

not a fight of the year, but a damned good one...

now, taylor`s fought hopkins twice, winky wright, ouma,a tricky cory spinks and pavlik twice over a span of 2 1/2 to 3 years....

he`s ducked no one....the guy`s a real man...

both guys are what`s right about boxing...

great night of fights.....great night of gambling...i was worried when pavlik won the 1st round on lederman`s card....whew.....

can`t wait to see my dvd recording of tank abbott getting starched again in the 1st round...just as dependable as death and taxes....lol

hope everyone did well....

totally agree. I came away more impressed with Taylor than I ever have been. He fought his heart out. My first thought when he let Steward go and wanted an immediate rematch was that he was in denial about the first fight, and I thought he may go down in the first 5 rounds. To my surprise, he came close to taking this one. Feel bad for the guy because he layed it on the line. A third fight with Pavlik would be a mistake...he should jump at the skimpy talent pool occupying the light heavyweight division.

What do ya think of Pavlik Spinch? I see some real flaws in him for the first time. He is just way too basic, at least tonight he was. He is just a one two guy, no three four. Throws the left out there as a distraction for the right. IMO a smart fighter would just get the hell out of the way every time he sees that left coming and counter off it.

I did not see Pavlik throw one uppercut the whole fight. He didnt even start going to the body until late.

Something I found really interesting early, he got countered off that killer right early and was afraid to commit with it for the rest of the night. That was huge for Taylor. I still had Kelly winning by 2 or 3 points but I just think he looked really basic tonight. IMO if he fought Calzaghe at 166 he would get schooled.

He pulled it out and did a great job winning but his game just looked flawed tonight. If trainer Jack cant teach him to throw a three four I think Kelly should give Freddy or Manny a call to see if they will co train him. I would still stick with Jack for motivational purposes but he needs to expand his skill base.

Another thing, I think that Taylor might take Kesslers challenge at 168. If that happens I really like Kessler and I think the line would be kind of even. People were talking Kessler down after the loss to Calzaghe but I think that this guy is still an animal. I would be all over Kessler, I think the guy is a highly skilled and tough fighter. Plus Taylor is not a super middle.

What do you think Spinch? I havent seen a play that gets me erect in awhile. Then again for some reason the assholes dont give you HBO and the internet in the jug so they make it kind of tough.

i don`t like taylor`s chances vs kessler....especially in denmark....

kessler isn`t all that much different than pavlik,imo...maybe a little stronger...a little busier....a little quicker,even...

taylor`s athletic,but he doesn`t have say,calzaghe`s smarts and shrewdness...and he`s not a southpaw...

taylor fights kessler in denmark....and the odds are fairly reasonable, right this minute i`d be on kessler...

what do you think of badjab popping up at about the same time you did?.....

you guys weren`t bunky`s at san quentin were you?....

love the commune comment :142smilie

lol...yeah, I've been a little negligent with any kind of commentary for awhile, although I admit to lurking quite a bit. Mostly, it's been a crazy work schedule coupled with 2 kids under the age of 3.

I'll try and chime in more than once a year.

Had a medium size parlay tonight with Valuev and Pavlik and a smaller amount on Pavlik by KO.

As far as upcoming fights, I'm liking Pacquaio at -170 over Marquez. And while I don't typically lay odds of more than 1/5, I think I would put the limit on Cotto over Gomez at -800.

I think Pavliks major flaw is his constant head hunting. The guy has to learn to go to the body more. Well, it looked like Taylor isn't a lost cause afterall and was willing to learn after the first fight. The first time i saw him all night go to the ropes, he fired back some viscious shots knowing he had to get out of there. Fight was close but the decision was right and both guys deserve a round of applause. They both laid it all out. One thing i was amazed at is Kelly getting sloppy in the tenth and i thought this might be trouble for him but that minute rest would do wonders for him. I wonder what would have happen if he didn't land that one shot to the body in those closing rounds? The good news is that i got to see two guys fighting and not just picking up pay checks and the bad news is that this is the Taylor i was hoping i got in the first fight when i bet him. I think i would have won.
