As so many applaud the camera system in England as a great success. I have to ask. Did any of these on every corner stop any bombings from going down. Unless you have manned cameras with those who can take proactive action. They stop nothing. But in England they think they worked real good. They say they now know who to hunt down. Well when it's suicide bombers whats left to hunt. And hunting someone down who's already did there massive killings is little reward.
Im not saying they never should be used. But try and at least use them in more affective ways.

They have secret cameras at a large number of intersections here in Chicago. They also have rooms somewhere with ability to watch all the activity. I think these tools are used for more than just survailance of possible terrorist activity.

I would imagine this is now status quo in all large cities in the free world.

How about other crimes than just terrorism ?

Easier to solve when you can see what's happened or can even
show pictures to victim to recoginze attacker/thief etc. ?

And in London camera system worked pretty well against earlier bombers from IRA, they weren't suicide bombers.

Daley has had this type stuff here for years in our lower income parts of the city. Long before 9/11.

I've been talking about it for a while here and elsewhere but everyone thinks it's all good.

Got into a conversation with my friend Gibber here on this type stuff a few months back and he thought I was exaggerating and over reacting.

My brother is CPD and says it's how he's trimming down the force, and payroll.

Keep the masses in line.

o.k.....i`ll bite.....what`s the problem with the cameras?..

is this like the patriot act?...where everybody cries foul with little or no evidence of abuse?...

i don`t think they`ve even looked at library records....but,i feel glad that they have that tool at their disposal...

it`s a fact that the terrorists seek out soft targets...civilian targets....britain had cameras..but this wasn`t expected....now,at least they have pictures of the terrorists....

who i`m sure are hiding in mosques as we speak...

what are you afraid of?...specifically...

you have something to hide?...

the same ones that complain about security measures are the same ones that will cry and ask why nothing was done to prevent a catastophe....

c`mon...we live in difficult times....these measures are necessary...

winston churchill...was such a visionary...it`s scary...from the german menace prior to ww2...to the radical islamic menace...

""How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities - but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.”"

—Sir Winston Churchill, from The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248

I don't have the time right now.........

but for one

you can't call on a camera to help you with the burglar in your house

it's not very pro-active as much policing is and I don't think it's meant to be

it's meant to instill fear in some, but it doesn't work with real bad guys

then there is the whole expense/cost issue

who's paying (more taxes), from where is it being taken (off basic money for security/policing), who benifits (such as our mayors friends per usual)

And in ALL the years these things have been operating in our ghettos, I have YET to hear about them playing a key role in SOLVING ANY CRIME or helping in successful trials against criminals.

It's another money pit and a feel good for some, but in general, another waste of money

(might I add) While giving away more freedom

what a load of crap......

first off....are you saying we should spread our legs because it`s gonna cost a little?....

a burglar in your house?.....and a nuke or a biological weapon detonating in d.c. or new york?....

you`re kidding,right?

what do you think 9/11 cost?...a helluva lot more than some cameras..or baggage checks.....

you do know that these s.o.b.`s main objective is to sneak a suitcase nuke or something similar into our cities, don`t you?...

we`re talking about the security of our familes here....the nation`s economy....

i.o...i`m shocked that you`re the one i`m dealing with here...

i guess you are against profiling?...baggage checks?...

you`re discussing the criminal aspect of installing cameras...i`m talking about doing everything we can to deter a major national catastrophe...

and a camera on your street corner?...what freedom of yours does that abridge?...

i`m curious...what is a camera keeping you from doing?....if it`s something you shouldn`t be doing,that`s tough...then,it`s working...

everybody`s "rights"?....somebody tell me how they`ve been violated....

btw...close to a hundred people just massacred in egypt......because some were foreigners vacationing at an egyptian resort...obviously,muslims were also slaughtered in the attacks......lord...

middle eastern countries can`t even have a tourist industry because of these monsters....

i say do whatever is necessary to make these maniacs think twice.....to try and deter them....

I'm saying they don't do anything here but cost money. That's all. In a perfect world things would go to plan. I wish they could be more effective.

sorry if that reality doesn't do it for you GW

didn't mean to get you worked up

again

lol- jeez, interesting subject as it turns out.

I agree completely with GW in that there is no problem with 360 degree cameras wherever they decide the biggest threats are.

Freeze has no problem with the Patriot Act(sic) but hates cameras in subways, etc...

Pet is correct, it's not just about 'terrorism,' how about everything else? Cameras won't prevent much, but at least they will be able to identify people involved in whatever.

I/O, it's amazing that you've never mentioned one thing about the billion a week that we spend trying to make Iraq a democracy, or whatever the f*ck we're doing there, but you're concerned about the expense of cameras? Here at home?

Freeze, please tell me wtf your problem is about having cameras in our subways.

i saw a terrorist expert from israel on the news today & he said one of the things the terroists have in their favor is that americans don't like to be inconvenienced....ie....cameras.

i think cameras in certain places is not a bad idea & think cameras placed in the nyc subway in particular is a very good idea.....& as a taxpayer i wouldn't mind spending a little extra in taxes for it.

my wife & i are are so worry about terrorists....we even have a camera in our bedroom.

lmao do you think a camera recording an islamofasciist blowing himself up would save any lives?

giving the government more power/responsibility is not going to solve the problem just like the unconstitutional patriot act

what we need to start doing is deporting/prosecuting any islamic cleric in our country making threats against the country and close down the borders

we also need to shut down the ACLU/amnesty International/any other anti-American cheerleading force once and for all

we need to start profiling these people and use commen sense instead of investigating 94 year old Granny Smith because she has bought too many rolaids in the last month

how a terrorist training camp was being run in Oregon is beyond me and just goes to show how pathetic our law enforcement is

they worry too much about catching Joe Kosar going 41 in a 35 while we have thugs and perverts in our midst raping/pillaging/terrorizing

MUSLIM TERRORISTS will always be free to do as they please, when they please....Simply because we have scumbags like TEDDY KENNEDY et al who will always refute terrorist profiling.

The sad truth is that noone is going to do anything in this country and will keep letting them in the country because you have liberals who keep playing the " people of color song ".

Great post. Except just a month or two ago, our great president assured Vincente Fox that he would do everything he could to convince congress to loosen up those immigration laws.

I agree with a lot of that, including profiling.

I just have a hard time understanding what your problem is with cameras in the subways.

Just a question and an fyi
1/ What in the world is an "Islamofacist"
2/ Thomas Jefferson quoted an ancient when he said "He who sacrifices freedom for security, deserves neither. Some people(not me) take this seriously.
3/ Read somewhere, the average American is photographed 12 times a day. (Parking lots, stores etc.)

I don't think cameras will do any more to stop anything than gates around apartment complexes. ....Now if you want me to get on a rant, let's talk about those useless contraptions!

I like that Churchill quote, GW! I guess if he were around today he'd be in hiding with Salman Rushdie somewhere. ...or dead like the writer in Holland.

I like that Jefferson quote too.

something tells me that camera in ar1`s bedroom isn`t security related........lmao....

some funny shit,ar1....

i.o......kosar....i`ve been a little bit of a shitheel the last few days...my bad....sorry...

i guess it scares me that we seem to have forgotten that these people aren`t trying to break into our cars....

it really scares me is that we are easy targets...we can`t recognize who`s the enemy....we seem to get the concepts of "fair play" and life and death" confused...

that some of us play a game of moral equivalebce between the killers of the innocent and ourselves...

we can`t seem to come to grips with who the good guys are...

i`ll calm down and lay a little low in the political forum...i`m getting an attitude...and it`s not pretty...

but, before i do,i`m gonna get this crap off my chest in another thread...i`ve been wanting to vent....

then i`ll go on sabbatical...

sorry for the attitude...the others can fence with kosar,djv,m.c. and the rest....football and boxing loom....

but i have to rant...one more time...it`s a health thing...
