Anybody else like the Falcons getting a touchdown at Carolina?

The Panthers averaged only 16 points a game last year, and they average exactly 16 this year so far as well. Seems like a lot of points for a team that can't score to give up. Last year, with Vick, the Falcons won this game 41-0. Doug Johnson is a step down, and Stephen Davis is an upgrade for the Panthers, but 48 points difference? At first glance, I just don't see it.

I dunno how you could put any money on Atlanta right now, especially on the road against a dominant D. Carolina is coming off a bye week. Atlanta is beat up, with Doug Johnson and a poor running game, and they aren't going to score many points in this one.

I'll probably tease Carolina to a pick, though.

wrong wrong wrong !

You should come into NFL matchups. Me and 4bubba are figuring it out. We are 4-0 on Falcons picks going back to pre-season.

Yeh the Panthers havnt scored much. Not yet they havnt !

Remember we just went through this with Tampa Bay !
They hadnt scored much either until they met the Falcons defense then from there it was Tankity tank tank.

The Carolina Panthers have revenge factor from two losses last year to the Vick Falcons. They will be up for this game in front of some very loud fans.

The Falcons are in trouble. They are ripe for the picking. I am not saying to slam it down and I mean hard. Yet.

The troubles for the Falcons now run deep. They are at the very breaking point of going down the tubes.

And lets talk for a second about the Panthers defense . And at home where the defense gets egged on by fans. Uh oh.

I can't believe I have even told you this much. Some things are closely regarded secrets in sports wagering.

OK I will give you the winner in this game.

Naww you will have to come to NFL matchup forum and I will give it out as a major release. I think I stole that line from someone here but what the hey.

Good luck

Oh sure I have. I've been around a while, I just don't post as much as some folks. Surprised you're not on the Dog on this one, King.

The important thing is to be on the winning side and not just the the dog. Thats too easy.

Falcons.....

Falcons.....

I have to agree with Jeff and KOD. Really, really hard to put money on the Falcons right now. They are playing bad and look worse. Yes, they played a bumped up team LW vs TBay but they're confidence is pretty low right now. Carolina on the other hand is a good defensive team which will give any team trouble. Offensively they need to pick it up, but thats what a bye week is for..... hopefully... of course, more research required before i pick

Any consideration for the Under here....?

I don't see Atlanta scoring more than about 10 here. But let's say they score 17, somehow. Does Carolina get 20? If so the game goes Over by 1 point. If Atlanta DOES get held to 10, Carolina can rack up 25 before if goes Over.

I guess my question is the matchup of Car's O vs Atl's D. How much damage can they do?

Also...I'm really not sure about this revenge thing. Carolina was a 7-9 team last year. And if I recall they got a little hot at the end to improve their record to approaching respectable. Are these guys REALLY going to still be angry 9 or 11 months later about losing to Atlanta? I mean I just don't see them holding a grudge all year long. Add to the fact they've got a new coach, new RB, other changes...half of those "angry" guys aren't even there anymore. I dunno, I just see this revenge thing being overused a lot.

These rich athletes on teams that were never serious contenders probably don't even remember last year in many cases I think.

But back to the real reason for my response...what about the Under....?

Ya, just confirming what I said above.... Carolina won 4 of their final 5 games to reach 7-9. Their losses to Atlanta were the 4th and 8th games of a stretch of losing 8 in a row. True, they got pummeled a combined 71-0 in those 2 games, but when you're falling to 3-8 losing that 8th game in a row, does the fact it's Atlanta spankin' your ass really piss you off that much, or do you just want to go home and forget about the season?

AND...if revenge is a valid factor... then why, after losing 30-0 to Atlanta the first go around, did Carolina come out and get beaten even worse, 41-0, in the rematch at home 4 weeks later? Wouldn't that anger and revenge from thrashing #1 have been far fresher in their minds and much more relevant???

Its a divisional game. The Panthers and Falcons have built a pretty serious rivalry over the past few years.

Last year the Panthers did not have the QB situation settled. They may be three times as good this year as last. Come on they hung in there and beat Tampa Bay. We just need remember what Tampa Bay did to the dirty birds.

Even though alot of players are gone, all Panther players know that they got drubbed twice last year. The Falcons defense is going to make the Panthers look like Super bowl champs.

Big Play Ray Buchannen doesnt wear dreds, them are tracks from being run over. Falcons defense is almost as bad as bad as the Falcons offensive line.

Well I wasn't so much making a comment on anyone's pick on the game as I was just revenge in general. At the present I am neutral on this game, so I am open to ideas. :)

What I was trying to determine though.... will Carolina score big, or just enough to get by? This to me seems the key to figuring out both the side and the total. Do they take Atlanta as seriously as they took Tampa Bay, or take them for granted? How does Atlanta respond to that embarassment? Laying 6 pts with a defensive team like Carolina IS a bit risky, even though Atlanta really did get drubbed this week. It's hard to put money on the Falcons in their current state...but....

I compare this situation to when Tampa Bay was good, but not great yet. Similar type of team.... all D, but have trouble scoring. Tampa would win their 10 games a year, but you never wanted to be laying a whole lot of points with them because they didn't cover the big spreads.

I know Car beat TB, and TB destroyed Atlanta, but that doesn't necessary mean Carolina annihilates Atlanta. We see this all the time.... A beats B, B beats C, so therefore A must beat C. Doesn't work out a lot of the time.

Still more interested in the Under. -6...ugh.

To me I think revenge game is a factors especially in division game. There are two game in week 3 are an example are

Buff @ Mia Which Buff take both game from Mia last year and on sun night Mia come and played.

Oak @ Den, Oak won both game last year and on Mon night Den got revenge.

So revenge is on CAR players mind then it going to be a long day for Doug Johnson and the Atl.

kenman u just saved me time, i was going to write the same scenario as u did on the 2 games this week-end (past)

have to lean w/carolina here and see if this trend continues this year, did anyone do any research from the start of the season and see what happened in any divisonal games where the road team won both last year?

Ok, I'll bite...I'm in a stat-digging mood tonight... :)

Matchups where the road team won both last year

Week 1
*Buff won/covered at home after losing both to NE last year;

Week 2
*Indy won/covered vs Tenn

Week 3
*Mia won/covered vs Buff
*Den won/covered vs Oak
*Det lost/didn't cover vs Minn
*Wash lost/didn't cover vs NYG

Revenge exacted 4 times out of 6. That's a manual count...I may have missed a game or two.
