No link....but coach Amstutz said this at the luncheon

"At the luncheon today Amstutz said he hopes that we arrange for MAC officials when we go away to Big Ten schools from now on. Its a contract thing that gets done at the time of the negotiations for the game. At the Penn St. game for example the AD made a contract that guaranteed MAC officials. That would have meant the difference in the game at Minny in my opinion because that TD fake punt would not have been called back. Also Keon Jacksons interception in the first quarter would have stood up instead of getting called out of bounds. That would have gave us great field position on the 30 and likely led to a score. We got screwed on a few biggies. "

Western Michigan/Purdue

There was a TOTALLY bullshit pass interference call at the end of the game.

pac10 is as bad as the big 10

pac10 is as bad as the big 10

central florida goes into the half up 3 on az st.....they get called for 17 penalties! in the game constantly being put in the hole, blunting drives and momentum and leading to numerous turnovers and a blow out loss...i will never, ever bet one of these small conference teams in an interconference away game...i was under the impression that they had either neutral officials or officials from the visiting school`s conference...that is not the case in many instances....read that article on arizona-utah...i was amazed...the fox in the hen house.

Here's a nice article from the University of Arizona newspaper. . . parts that I like are:

#1: The referee in question DID NOT make the decision on the throw into the endzone.

#2. McBride says that just when Utah was about to make a run or do something to get back into the game, the officials made a suspect call, yet he doesn't provide any specific evidence of suspect calls besides the throw into the endzone at the end of the game.

#3: McBride says the official is a "Big Booster" of the U of A. . . yes he graduated from U of A 30 years ago, but has NEVER made a donation to the school and certainly did not have a financial stake (unless he bet on U of A of course) on the outcome.

#4: McBride says the call was "An easy one to make". Take a look at the play at regular speed as the ref saw it and you can tell that its not an easy call to make either way. I personally thought his knee hit the line first, but when slowed down, there is evidence (although not conclusive) that his foot hits the ground a split second before the knee in bounds.

Anyways, an interesting discussion nonetheless. . . if I was a Utah fan, I wouldn't be happy, but it was a very difficult call to make at the end of the game and I'm glad I didn't have to make it. What I like is the Wildcats will use this crap from McBride as motivation against Wisconsin to show they weren't as lucky as the Utah coach wants them to believe.

Big Ten admits error to UT

BLADE SPORTS WRITER

Twelve days ago, the University of Toledo had a 56-yard touchdown pass from punter Jason Cox to Carl Ford off a fake punt called back in the fourth quarter against Minnesota because of an illegal block.

The touchdown would have given Toledo a 28-21 lead. Big Ten Conference officials assigned to the game initially ruled that Ford caught the ball past the line of scrimmage, which would have made the block that freed him illegal. UT coach Tom Amstutz protested immediately that Ford was at least two yards behind the line of scrimmage when he first touched the ball, but to no avail.

It turns out Amstutz was right.

The Big Ten Conference now has admitted to Mid-American Conference commissioner Rick Chryst and UT athletic director Mike O?Brien that the officials erred in their call.

Toledo, which later bypassed a potential 25-yard game-tying field goal for a fake that was snuffed out, lost to the Gophers 31-21. There is no appeal process, and the result of the game will not change.
