If I fancy a team to win a match I generally consider two options which are backing the side "to win outright" or backing the side to be the "first team to score".
The odds are generally something like this:
Team A outright +140
Team A first team to score -115
or
Team A outright +200
Team A first team to score +130
I am finding plenty of merit in the "first team to score" option.
In the event Team A scores first you win. In the event Team B scores first you lose (however it is very likely that an outright play on Team A would have lost anyway as they would have needed to come from 1-0 down and scored at least two goals).
I haven't had the time to have a decent look at any historical data on what percentage of teams come back from 1-0 down to win World Cup matches (I don't think it has happened in the 2002 tournament to date).
Any other thoughts on this ??
