what's the biggest fish ya ever caught and/or best fishing story ya got.

Reason I ask, is this morning I went a little south and landed a 198 pound Tarpon, my biggest catch to date. Took about 45 minutes to get the fish on the boat. We weighed the fish and released it to only watch the damn thing get swallowed by a massive shark. This was crazy, and am waiting for our guide to get me a copy of the film, as he had a camcorder!

Bluegrass!
In the Gulf, I was unfortunate enough to snag a sand shark. It was like pulling up the bottom of the ocean. A tad bit over 1 hour it took me to reel him in. I barely got to see his two little beady eyes before they cut the line. I went banannas!! I was already figurin' the taxidermist bill...

My fish story has nothing to do with fish but is good for a laugh. Its kinda one of those stories you'da had to been there and know the fellas involved but I'll try to re-enact it...My buddy Pauker is a flat out bad ass with one hell of a temper. A very generous guy but you don't wanna be on his bad side. And an ex gold glove boxer to boot. One day he's out in a small fishing boat with this acquaintance name of Loders. Loders is a tight ass and kinda annoying. So Pauker eats his lunch and is still hungry. Loders is like, hey bro, I've got an extra sandwich...so Paukers like cool, thanks man!...After Pauker gets done munchin' this thing down, Loders had the sack to tell Pauker that he was gonna need a coupla bucks for the sandwich. Can you believe that shit? Thats the tightest thing I've ever heard. Pauker said he was gonna throw him outta the boat and I can't remember why he said he didn't. Thats my fav fish story.

Most of mine are...mama, I didn't catch nothin'

caught a 126.5 pound tuna when i was in hawaii in 1993. 4 of us went (my brother, a buddy, and the wife). we chartered the boat for a full day. once we got out there and were ready for some fishing they put 4 lines in the ocean for some trolling. they told us the best way for 4 of us to do it, was to each have 45 minutes, so we decided the order and started the trolling. i was 2nd. 1st 45 minutes, nothing. now it's MY 45 minutes. by the time my brother got out of the chair we got a hit. it took me 45 minutes to bring that sucker in. it gave a nice fight. when i got him up to the boat they beat the hell out of him with baseball bats. LMAO! it was a lot of fun!

the funniest part of the trip was about my buddy. you really have to know the guy i guess but i'll shoot ya the story. he's an ex marine and tough guy

that's what HE thinks anyway

we had been drinking beer since we left the dock. brought 2 cases for the 3 of us. anyway, after about 3 hours of drinking and fishing, the tough guy says he's gonna go down below and lay down for awhile. i TOLD him that i didn't think that was a good idea being out in the ocean and all. anyway, mr tough guy goes into a long story about how he could have been a navy seal and he has been out to sea before and nothing bothers HIM, blah, blah, blah. so he goes down to nap and about 15 minutes later i go down to check on him and, sure enough, he was puking his guts out. he puked for at least 2 hours until we finally told the captain that we better cut it short and take him in. lmao! i rib my buddy about that all the time. like i said, you have to know him, i'm laughing as i type.

gonna go fishing in NC at the end of the month. going with my son and father and LOOPHOLE!! can't wait, loop. see you soon. maybe i'll have some more stories to share when i get back. gonna take my digital cam and take some pics to share with you guys.

later

Very cool thread Gents

Good timing as tuna season is in full gear here in Southern California. Albacore counts just went crazy this weekend. Anyway I've caught and released many blue and striped marlin in the east cape of Baja. Mostly in the 180lb-240lb range. A truly magnificent and beautiful fish.

However, My best fish story comes from one of the multi day (3-4 days) tuna runs I make every summer out of San Diego . Two years ago we were on the last day of a very productive trip. We were 100 miles out in Mexican waters, the sea was flat calm because the energy from the remnants of a hurricane to the south was butting heads with the always present northwest swell . We had a boat load of 25-50lb blue fin tuna and albacore and the last day was when the biggys moved in. These were the bruisers in the 80lb to 100lb class. We were in school and I cast out the fattest sardine I could find a luckily the bait did the work swimming straight out from the boat dragging my 60lb test and 4/0 hook with it. All of a sudden this blue fin hammered the bait and tore off so much line I just sat there in awe watching this fish peel off line even though my drag was buttoned down hard. I was in helpless mode as the reality of getting spooled grew near. With about 3 layers of line left on the reel the fish finally stopped and I had my chance to get something back. For an hour we fought and the thing about party boats trying to maneuver up, down and around all the other anglers who are also hooked up makes it all a joyous chaos . Anyway I landed my biggest tuna ever that day, a 151lb jackpot winning bluefin tuna.

After the fight I sat down and just downed a couple beers and boy did they taste good!

Too fun and unforgettable

the best fish story (a real one).

a few years ago, while living in St. Petersburg, they held one of their annual tarpon tournaments, except this one is from one of the piers.

this kid, i don't know, i think he was 14, snagged one from the pier, jumped off the pier chasing it, went under the pier, in and out of the piles?? (the support posts) to avoid the tarpon wrapping himself around them, kept running in and out of the water for i don't know how long until he finally brought it to shore. i believe he won the trophy for his age class.

it was one hell of a story, and if you have been around for a while, you should have heard/read it, gator. this was probably about 9 years ago.

i wish the original could be re-printed. it was just awesome.
