Anybody have any ideas on the fitness or otherwise of various contenders for this week?
In particular, those with good chances if fit;
Mediate, Sutton, Azinger and Furyk.
All have had their problems recently.
cheers
Clive

Good luck with your quest, it's not an easy one

FWIW my take is that they won't tee off it they're carrying an injury that would make a difference, especially with the PGA only a week away.

Stanley, I'm not sure I agree with you. With only two more events left to gain points for The Ryder Cup, I think these guys are desperate to gain points. Joe Durant who is struggling with a neck injury is also teeing it up. I am convinced that he and some of the others would not be playing if The Ryder Cup was not an issue

Good point efgee. I did think afterwards about making a proviso about the Ryder Cup, but I thought it would only be a concern for Mediate. Sutton is in the team and given the current standings, I would be very surprised if Furyk and Azinger didn't get the captain's picks. If Furyk can finish ahead of Durant then that opens the door for Faxon to be one of Strange's picks instead.

Past experience has shown that playing against injuries is fraught with danger. Certainly DTB and I can attest to that. Davis Love's performance at the US Open and Ernie Els and Bernhard Langer's performances at the British Open attest to that also.

Amen to that! I believe I may have made mention of this prior if so still worth a second look.Langer in Open was a classic.All you heard was his back and how many times he had to stop his car enroute,3 I believe.The very first shot I see of him playing is lipping a putt and throwing himself backwards on ground in disbelief.1st thought was, bad back my a$$ and mentally chalked up 2 probable losses.

I've also been burned by injuries this yr particularly. not only the ones mentioned, but Monty's back for the US Open and Calc earlier in the yr. I'm thinking about betting with the next injured guy who can't bend over!

DOGS, I know when my back goes I have to baby the sucker for days. I also was shocked at Langer's dexterity ( DAMN IT ).

And I don't get the story in MLB about the umpire with the broken hand not being able to throw it out to the pitcher. The clip shows him FIRING the ball down on home plate in disgust ( plenty enough musturd on it to get it to the mound as it bounced pretty high at that ) and then tossing the guy with a big arm motion. I don't buy the "broken bone" BS at all. He was just po-ed, for whatever reason, and wanted to make a point. UMPs wanting to be the SHOW, disgust me. How's that for thouroughly getting off topic?

Clive Evidently bookmakers are getting trapped like us.They had this in PGA main site before lines came out.
"Defending champion Rocco Mediate, who won with a 20-under-par 268 last year, believes he's healthy enough to finish the tournament. Back problems have forced him to withdraw after one round at two events since finishing fourth at the U.S. Open"
Don't know why else they would have put him at +130 vs Calc.
