the question in my mind is what happens tonight at bank one when wayne is done. marlins bullpen is pretty much decimated after last night. as best i can tell, the relief plan consists of tejera and that's about it. tejera was scheduled to start on wednesday, filling in for the injured aj burnett, but last night changed all that. after tejera, the cupboard will be pretty much empty.

tejera's numbers this year: 5.06 era; 6.48 era in 4 road appearances; 5.91 in 6 night appearances.

tejera vs arizona: 7.88 era over eight innings; 1 appearance @ bank one - 10 hits, 7 runs over 6 innings, 2.17 whip, .323 baa.

marlin catcher ivan rodriguez had the night off. 2b luis castillo was supposed to have the night off, but pinch hit in the 7th inning and stayed in the rest of the game, notching 6 at bats.

marlin team plane left miami around 9:30 pm last night.

meanwhile. arizona played the mets in a doubleheader but actually ended up playing less innings than the marlins. pitching was a nonissue for the d'backs. webb and johnson covered 13 innings on their own and collected 27 k's between them, a major league record for a double header.

arizona starter elmer dessens this year: 4.71 era, 4.63 @ bank one; 3.66 career era @ bank one .

dessens vs florida: 1.69 era over 26.2 innings.

dessens this year has striking numbers vs righthanded hitters - .194 baa, 1.15 whip. as best i can tell only three lefthanded hitters in the marlin lineup - fox, hollingsworth and pierre. pierre went the distance last night as did most of the marlin starters.

what does all this mean to me? it's hard for me to see how the marlins can compete tonight. even though the price on the d'backs is around -160, over my usual self-imposed -150 limit, i may be compelled to wager on arizona tonight.

I actually made up my mind last night to completely stay away from both games today.

I would love to see some stats for teams that have played double headers or long games and then had to travel the next day(Anyone have any?) Almost have a feeling the offenses would be a bit sluggish in these situations, but there are way too many situations to keep a person off the Under as well...Loophole made some good points with the Florida pen, plus I would expect the roof to be open again.

Good luck to the players today :)

i also consider the totals in today's two games unplayable. have to think that, in the az/fla matchup, both teams have to be exhausted in this situation, and with the total now up to 10, the under sure looks inviting. lost in the shuffle of yesterday's no-no by millwood is the fact that the phillies had only four hits. ledee had the only two-hit day and extra base hit, but he's never seen dreifort. however, just cannot play an under where the marlins have no bp and are starting a minor league pitcher just a few days off of tendonitis problems.

can't play over in the la/phi game with both teams traveling virtually coast to coast, and the under is iffy given the number and the way that philly has hit on the road this year.

all that said, i'll probably jump out there and play both home favorites tonight, so long as az stays under -170. just seems to me that both home teams have significant edges given all the circumstances, especially az given the marlins' current pitching fiasco.
