Call me crazy - I've been working on this for a couple of hours - but I have the tools needed to extract those numbers in a not-so-long way so it was a nice little waste of time:
During the regular season (2000-2001):
When the score is tied (whatever it is.. 0-0, 1-1, 2-2 etc..) - OT excluded:
The next goal is scored by...
Home Team: 1165 (52.9%)
Road Team: 1036 (47.1%)
During the playoffs (139 scenarios):
Home Team: 66 (47.5%)
Road Team: 73 (52.5%)
We all know how important it is to take the lead - especially in a playoff game... However because of the few # of samples (playoffs), we can't make a clear conclusion out of it.
However here's something very interesting:
Just in terms of goals / 60 minutes of play (OT still excluded):
PS Here for some technical reasons, any empty netter has been counted as 0.25 goal instead of 1 full goal
When the home team leads by 1..
During the regular season:
Home Team: 2.73 g/60 min
Road Team: 2.71 g/60 min
During the playoffs:
Home Team: 2.26 g/60 min
Road Team: 3.17 g/60 min
You don't need glasses.. the numbers are correct
When the Road team leads by 1:
During the regular season:
Home Team: 2.91 g/60 min
Vis Team: 2.50 g/60 min
During the playoffs:
Home Team: 2.15 g/60 min
Vis Team: 2.01 g/60 min
Bring out your own conclusions...
Now I'm going to watch the game out of this place as I'm a bit superstitious and everytime I watched the game at home from A to Z during the SC Final, the Avs won.
Going to watch the game with a couple of friends. Good news: I might be the only one cheering for the Devils. So I'll be the bad guy and I'll get the boos and I'll know how it feels to be a Devils player tonight
