CARSON, Calif. -- Danielle Fotopoulos scored two goals in a two-minute span to lead the United States to a 3-0 victory over Iceland in an exhibition match Sunday.
The victory makes the United States 7-0 since the retirement of Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy and Joy Fawcett in December.

"It's a transition and we don't want to take that lightly," forward Tiffeny Milbrett said. "We've been so used to playing a certain way on this team, for 12 years, probably."

During that stretch, the United States has scored 21 goals, allowed none and won one major international championship, the Algarve Cup in Portugal.

"We miss those players, but it's something we've been preparing for," forward Abby Wambach said of Hamm, Foudy and Fawcett. "We feel pretty excited and confident."

Fotopoulos said new coach Greg Ryan, who replaced April Heinrichs in April, has played a critical role.

"He puts that confidence in the team," said Fotopoulos, who holds the NCAA record with 118 career goals. "Just renewing that confidence with one another gains our fire and our feel for the game."

Fotopoulos, who replaced Milbrett in the 46th minute, scored her 15th international goal in the 64th minute.

Shannon Boxx fired a 33-yard line drive that goalkeeper Maria Agustsdottir deflected with both hands while falling. With Agustsdottir on the ground, Fotopoulos pounced on the loose ball and scored into an open net from four yards.

In the 65th minute, Fotopoulos headed Wambach's right-wing crossing pass inside the left post from six yards.

Boxx ended the scoring in the 69th minute, running onto Wambach's pass from the left side of the penalty area and sending a 13-yard diagonal shot inside the left post.

Hope Solo earned her fifth shutout this year and the seventh of her international career without making a save.

Lori Lindsey from Indianapolis and Angie Woznuk from El Cajon, Calif., made their international debuts for the United States as second-half substitutes.
