It should not be off the board. Ely has not been hurt, Fresno is holding him out of games until the investigation is over. He probably won't play, but Chris sandy is back and he is the "x" factor.

Hear is what Yahoo said about Ely playing or not:

The Melvin Ely case is finally reaching a resolution. Fresno State's star center either plays Thursday in the WAC opener at Hawaii or Saturday at San Jose State. The NCAA suspended Ely for six games -- he has already sat out five -- for staying in a Vegas hotel paid for by a sports agency last spring. Fresno filed an appeal, which if granted, allows Ely to return against the Warriors. Ely has averaged 19.9 points and 9.3 rebounds in seven games this season. The Bulldogs are 8-4.

I have Hawaii so I hope Ely does not play, but what I think, is that Tarkenion purposely doesn't want to say if Ely is playing or not to gain a mental advantage over Hawaii. I'm guessing it's a game time or close to game time decision. Whether he plays or not, I think this game will be rather close.

Espn.com says that Ely said he won't play against Hawaii, this is what he said:

"Ely said he will have to miss Thursday's game against Savannah State and the WAC opener Dec. 27 against Hawaii. Ely said the school will try to appeal the Hawaii game, but the Christmas holiday will complicate the deal."

Nothing is 100%, but looks like he won't play, but I heard there is a chance he might play against Hawaii, cause he might be given the option to play Hawaii and pick a game in the future to sit out. So who knows.
