small profit yesterday but could have saved a lot of typing on the two big writeups. not complaining though, sure beats the alternative. home all day today, cold snap here makes it too cold to even think about walking outside so nothing to do but cap hoops. some early games:

davidson -2: first advantage from the so conf bye i think. citadel had to play hard yesterday to put away vmi. their star guard travis cantrell logged 38 minutes which should slow him down a bit against the wildcats. after yesterday citadel now 9-48 in so cof tournament play, so i think it's time to stick a fork in them. davidson took a 69-50 spanking at citadel in december coming off exam week, so wildcats should be focused.

ark st -9: ark st has nick rivers back now close to full speed. they're 8-4 with him in the lineup, 6-11 without him. denver is last in the conf in fg% d, next to last in fg shooting %; two road wins all year at s cupcakes s ala and robt morris. dd win looks reasonable.

n tex -2: 10 game turnaround this year for mean green best in nation. fiu fading. fiu beat nt in denton earlier this year by making a desperation 3 pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime. only team with a losing record to beat the green in denton, so payback appears in order.

Some stats I found in the North Texas/Fla Int game that led me to a play on N.T.>>>>>

Texas not a powerhouse on the boards at all, but Florida Int has not out-rebounded an opponent in their last 9 games.

YTD key stats for me showed very close numbers in Offensive FG% and Defensive FG%, but North Texas has a huge edge in the all important Free Throw numbers at 70.9% to just 60.7%.

In the last 5 for each team, N.Texas has better numbers in Offensive FG% at 43.0% to 41.9% (and in 3 pointers they have shot 33.8% to just 22.6% for Fla.Int) and in Defensive FG% at 44.4% to a putrid 50.0% for F.I.

Florida has also lost their last 8 straight S/U so laying 2 points seems more than reasonable here.

Good luck!

mid tenn st -2-: mtsu on of those teams that has been solid at home but traditionall weak on the road. however they have improved somewhat this year and broke a long road losing streak this year at new orleans, and lately played w ky tough. s ala is the epitome of a sorry road team. their one road win this year came in daytona at pitiful bethune cookman when s ala miraculously made up 7 points in the last 14 seconds and then held on in double overtime. their last road win prior to that was over a year ago at denver, coincidentally also a double ot game. thus i don't expect a s ala runaway to say the least. also s ala depth took a hit this week with suspension of backup guard mclovish (12 min/gm).

Loophole,

Read your write-up on Furman last night. I agreed, but we just missed it.......I think we can apply the back to back to today's game fu vs. geo. so. g. Southern only giving 4. Seems like bargain, but haven't dug deeper yet. Have you had a chance to look at it yet? Thanks.

i've been looking hard at going against all the so con teams that played yesterday. however, don't trust tenn chat vs unc-g and can't get a feel for the furman game. furman really didn't play as well as they could have yesterday. paladins (i love that nickname - richard boone was my favorite tv star when i was a kid) played an eight man rotation so only one player, a non-starter, pulled over 30 minutes. i'll let that one go. greg is right, e tenn st is the play. the games tonight but i'll go ahead and post it now -

e tenn st +6-: e tenn st one of the hottest teams in the southern conference, especially with their defense, tough 1-3-1 zone. for reasons that are not exactly clear to me, c of c managed to play four starters for over thirty minutes in a 24 point win. they ain't gonna like that rested defense tonight.

towson st +4: i studied this game a lot this morning and i can't for the life of me figure out a reason why hofstra should be laying four points against me and four of my friends. towson is comparable, so i'll take them.

Solid 2-1 start to the day loop. Now let's cheer on Towson to rally from that half time deficit......I'm on them too!

the rest for tonight

the rest for tonight

penn -8-: i'm going to forgive the quakers for their one little cover slip last weekend and stay on the them. i expect penn to stay in the ivy hunt to the bitter end, and tonight is payback for the loss that put them in the hole.

e wash -4-: as you know, i'm not big on road favs, and i know sac st is improved at home, but i'm going to make an exception here. since they healed up over the holidays, e wash has been on fire in conference play, winning 9 of 12 and the last 6 in a row, and shooting over 53% in conference play. right this magic moment they are the best team in the conference. roadwise in conference. they've won and covered 4 out of five this season, and remarkably they've won 10 of 13 over the past two seasons under coach giacoletti. e wash still has a chance to win the regular season title and host the conference tournament with a sweep this weekend and a mon st upset of mon.

port st +11-: too many points. i know n az was playing better before they were waylaid on the montana swing last weekend but lumberjacks are only 1-2 ats laying dd - covered vs sac st but not against fullerton st or idaho state. portland st shot over 50% last weekend in a home sweep ov weber st and idaho st, and has covered dd at montana st, weber st and e wash, all better tams than n az.
