disappointing 3-5 yesterday, 8-6 overall in tourney play. ain't anything easy about capping postseason, as shown by the large number of bettors' darlings that have taken it on the chin so far. remember to play with restraint so as not to give back what we've worked so hard to get during the regular season. no press ups or "goy" during tourney time - that what the man counts on.

have to go out of town this morning though should be able to return by early aftrnoon to see some hoops action. here's the daytime plays:

penn +4-: the allure of playing the quakers playing in pennsylvania was too much to resist. penn finished the season as strongly as anyone. cal hasn't traveled to the east coast in three and a half months, and last time they did they were pounded by 20 at south fla.

nc state -1-: did anyone doubt that i would be playing this game? homer bias aside, pack is a multifaceted team that has grown as the season has progressed. i am optimistic that the combo of sendek and former ohio hc larry hunter, now a wolfpack asst, will be an edge in tourney preparation.

florida -9-: staying with my commitment to play the sec in the tourney, though laying all these points today and tonight may make me gag. taking comfort in the fact that creighton is without any really significant nonconference road wins. not really concerned with the injury to nelson. this time of year the loose ball and rebounding drills get kind of ugly. probably indicates the gators are getting their minds right.

san diego st +11: majerus let me down last night but i still believe in playing the best coaches this time of year. self is pretty good but fisher is his daddy.

xavier -1: i can here the squeals from here but, as this is probably the best buy we'll see on a top ten quality team, i'll take the plunge.

nc state over 133-: i feel wolfpack has the edge at the guards and consequently trust them to score their half of this total.

btw, got nc state at a pick and penn at +5.

also made smaller contrarian plays on cen conn st +15 and hampton +14. with the rising lines, it seems like good spots to play against the masses.

thanks crib. i hate it when i lose everything i write up with the 'ol accidental delete. i've done that with a whole day's column before. still can't fathom what the ohio people were thinking when they let hunter go. imo the guy is a big reason state turned things around so well this year while relying on four freshmen. i'll probably be on ga and tex tech tonight also - as you know i'm pushing the sec and the best coaches in the tourney. good luck today.

wouldn't you know as soon as i brag on the wolfpack coaching staff they let me down. if the wolfpack is content to let mich st dictate this kind of pace they have no chance. grundy is struggling but is best in transition and the wolfpack's 3 pt shooting would pick up too. i'm going to take a chance somebody in the wolfpack locker room points this out a halftime, thus playing:

nc state -2- 2nd half and over 69 2nd half.
