THE SPORTS ADVISORS

NFL PRESEASON

Oakland (1-0 SU and ATS) at Tennessee (1-0 SU and ATS)
The Raiders make the lengthy trip to Nashville for a nationally televised Week 2 preseason meeting against the Titans at LP Field.
Oakland rolled to an 18-6 victory over crosstown rival San Francisco in Week 1, easily cashing as a one-point home favorite. The Raiders are 7-3 SU and ATS since the start of the 2006 preseason, but they are 1-5 SU and ATS in true preseason road games since 2005 (0-2 SU and ATS last year).
Tennessee opened up with an impressive 34-13 rout of the Rams, covering as a three-point home chalk. The Titans, who went 2-6 SU and ATS in August from 2005-06, have since posted a 4-1 SU and ATS preseason mark.
QB JaMarcus Russell will start for the Raiders and is expected to play the first half, followed by Andrew Walter, Marques Tuiasosopo and possibly rookie Sam Keller. Russell threw just five passes last week, completing two for 13 yards, with one sack. But the Raiders finished the game with 248 rushing yards, led by rookies Louis Rankin (eight carries, 91 yards, including a 71-yard dash) and Darren McFadden (12 carries, 48 yards).
QB Vince Young, who went 3-for-6 for 17 yards and also ripped off a 35-yard run last week, will start for the Titans and should see more time this week, playing with the starters well into the second quarter. Kerry Collins is expected to relieve Young, likely followed by Ingle Martin. Last week, Tennessee racked up 495 total yards, including 340 rushing yards, while holding the Rams to just 241 total yards.
The Raiders have now stayed under the total in 11 of their last 14 preseason games, including five of the last seven away from home. Conversely, Tennessee is on a 4-0 ?over? roll in August.
ATS ADVANTAGE: TENNESSEE

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Chicago (74-47) at Florida (63-59)
The red-hot Cubs send ace Carlos Zambrano (12-5, 3.22 ERA) to the hill at Dolphin Stadium to open a three-game series against the Marlins, who will counter with Josh Johnson (3-0, 3.19) in a battle of right-handers.
Chicago dumped Atlanta 11-7 Thursday night on the road to complete a three-game sweep. The Cubs outscored the Braves 29-9 in the series, and they?ve now won eight straight road games. They are also on runs of 13-3 overall and 6-0 with Zambrano starting a series opener.
Florida was shut out by St. Louis on Thursday, losing 3-0, and has dropped five of its last seven games overall. However, the Marlins are 6-0 in Johnson?s six starts this season, and they are 12-2 in the last 14 clashes with the Cubs overall, including 6-0 in the past six meetings in South Beach.
The Cubs had won three straight and five of six behind Zambrano before the right-hander got shelled Saturday against St. Louis. Zambrano allowed nine runs on 10 hits in just 4 1/3 innings of a 12-3 home loss. In his six starts prior to that, Zambrano yielded just eight runs in 40 1/3 innings (1.79 ERA).
Florida has been perfect behind Johnson since his July 10 return to the rotation after Tommy John surgery. On Sunday at Shea Stadium, he allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings to notch his third straight winning decision in an 8-2 rout of the Mets.
Zambrano is 6-4 with a 3.38 ERA in 10 road starts this year, and he?s 4-1 with a 2.55 ERA in eight career starts against Florida. Johnson is 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA in two home starts this season, and he?s 0-1 with a bloated 8.53 ERA in two career appearances (one start) against Chicago.
The over for Chicago is on a 4-0 run and has cashed in eight straight road games, and it is also 4-0 in Zambrano?s last four starts and 10-3 in Johnson?s last 13 outings. Furthermore, the over is 17-8 in the last 25 meetings between these two teams and 7-2 in the last nine contests in Miami.
ATS ADVANTAGE: OVER

Milwaukee (70-52) at L.A. Dodgers (62-59)
Southpaw Manny Para (9-5, 4.02 ERA) leads the streaking Brewers into a three-game weekend set against the equally hot Dodgers, who will start right-hander Chad Billingsley (11-9, 3.07).
Milwaukee finally cooled off after eight straight wins, losing 3-2 Thursday to complete a three-game series at San Diego. The Brewers are on runs of 6-1 against the N.L. West and 20-8 on the highway.
Los Angeles completed a four-game sweep of Philadelphia with a 3-1 home win Thursday night. The Dodgers are on surges of 6-2 overall, 11-3 at home (6-0 in their last six) and 7-1 against left-handed starters. In this rivalry, L.A. is 41-20 in the last 61 meetings overall and 20-8 against the Brew Crew in the past 28 battles at Dodger Stadium.
The Brewers had lost three in a row and six of seven behind Parra before earning a 5-4 home win Sunday against Washington. Parra allowed one run on six hits in seven innings, bouncing back from a string of five starts in which he?d allowed 20 earned runs in 31 1/3 innings (5.74 ERA).
The Dodgers have lost two straight behind Billingsley, including a 5-4 loss Sunday at San Francisco in which he allowed three runs on nine hits in six innings en route to his second straight no-decision.
Parra is 4-3 with a 5.00 ERA in 10 road starts this season, and he?s 0-0 with a 1.35 ERA in one career start against Los Angeles ? a 6-4 home victory earlier this season. Billingsley is 7-4 with a 3.23 ERA in 13 home appearances (12 starts) this year, and he?s 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA in three career appearances (one start) against Milwaukee.
The under is 8-2-2 in the Brewers? last 12 games overall and 11-1-1 tear in their last 13 road tilts. For Los Angeles, the under is on streaks of 9-4-1 overall, 19-8-1 at Dodger Stadium and 11-5 in Billingsley?s last 16 starts.
ATS ADVANTAGE: L.A. DODGERS and UNDER

VEGAS EXPERTS

San Francisco Giants at Atlanta Braves
Friday, August 145h, 7:35 PM ET

Atlanta really got beaten up by the Cubs over the past two days, but the Giants are a far less formidable foe, particularly with Matt Cain on the hill in the underdog role. While Cain has been better in '08 than previous years, his TSR in the dog role remains 6-20, including 3-15 on the road. The Giants average just 3.8 runs/game away from home and have to be demoralized after blowing late leads each of the past two days against Houston.

Play on: Atlanta Braves

Pirates +130 over Pelfrey and the Mets in the opener of their series at PNC--The Bucs might be in their heads after that comeback win at Shea last Monday

Cards -105 at Cincy--Thompson over Arroyo in the Queen City--I just think St.Louis is better right now than the Reds anyway you look at it

SARATOGA Race #1 at 1:00 PM Eastern

Top pick: #7 (CIELO SONG) - Goes turf-to-dirt and will make his first start for trainer Gary Contessa off a claim here on August 4. Dirt seems fine off some of his races earlier this year and he could surprise them at a square price.

2nd pick: #6 (Fort Apache Star) - Winner over the course on opening week, he's run well in all of his starts for trainer John Fahey since a claim in early May. Big threat right back.

3rd pick: #1 (Acclimate) - Makes his first start off a recent Enrique Arroyo claim from Gary Contessa. He was returning from a three-month layoff, so he could improve on a couple of angles.

4th pick: #3 (Casual) - Scott Lake runner is consistent on the mid-Atlantic circuit and brings some speed/stalking ability to the contest. Runner is a real consistent sort (61-11-15-Cool and should be involved from start to finish.

GAMBLERS WORLD TIP OF THE DAY Sport: MLB Game: 7:05PM, Kansas City Royals vs. New York Yankees

Prediction: New York Yankees

Current Line: -180 Over/Under: 9 Reason: The fans at Yankee Stadium will be treated to a game between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Yankees when they take their seats on Friday. The Royals will give the ball to ace starter Gil Meche in this one. Righthander Meche is 10-9 this season with a 4.18 ERA. Meche's opponent in this one will be Andy Pettitte. The Yankees lefthander has a 4.32 ERA to go along with a 12-9 record this season. Oddsmakers currently have the Yankees listed as 180-moneyline favorites versus the Royals, while the game's total is sitting at 9. The Royals were thumped 9-2 by the White Sox last time out, as +155 road underdogs. The game's 11 runs made it OVER the posted over/under (10). Jose Guillen drove in both runs for the Royals, while Kyle Davies surrendered three runs off nine hits over five innings of work. The Yankees were doubled 4-2 by the Twins in the rubber match on Wednesday, as a +105 road underdog. The six runs fell UNDER the day's posted over/under (9.5). Jason Giambi drove in one run and Ivan Rodriguez scored the other Yankees run off a wild pitch. Darrell Rasner gave up three runs over five innings to suffer the loss. Current streak: Kansas City has lost 3 straight games. Team records: Kansas City: 54-67 SU New York: 64-57 SU Kansas City most recently: When playing on Friday are 4-6 Before playing NY Yankees are 4-6 After playing Chi White Sox are 7-3 After a loss are 4-6 New York most recently: When playing on Friday are 5-5 Before playing Kansas City are 7-3 After playing Minnesota are 6-4 After a loss are 4-6 A few trends to consider: The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Kansas City's last 8 games when playing NY Yankees The total has gone OVER in 10 of Kansas City's last 15 games when playing on the road against NY Yankees Kansas City is 6-16 SU in their last 22 games when playing NY Yankees Kansas City is 3-21 SU in their last 24 games when playing on the road against NY Yankees NY Yankees are 21-3 SU in their last 24 games when playing at home against Kansas City The total has gone OVER in 6 of NY Yankees's last 7 games at home NY Yankees are 13-4 SU in their last 17 games at home The total has gone UNDER in 6 of NY Yankees's last 8 games when playing Kansas City Next up: NY Yankees home to Kansas City, Saturday, August 16

Triple-Dime Bet

TEN / OAK Under 35.0

This game is going to be a hard-nosed defensive battle. The Titans first and second team defenses are the most physical units in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Raiders are looking forward to testing their power running game against a defense like Tennessee to see how they stack up with the NFL's best. Darren McFadden and Michael Bush are going to get a lot of work tonight for Oakland. Both Vince Young and JaMarcus Russell will play about a half but that doesn't concern me. With injuries to the offensive line and depth issues at receiver for both teams, I expect the defenses to dominate all night long. Kerry Collins and Andrew Walter aren't mobile backups, which means these strong defensive fronts will be able to tee off on them in passing situations. I can't see many points being scored in this one, as both teams want to take a long look at their rookie running backs this week. Expect this game to come in way under the 35 points.

Larry Ness' Situational GOW: 180-93 run

Larry's on a 69-43 run with his premium MLB plays s/June 30. Whether it's short-term runs like that or more long-term ones, like his 180-93 two-year regular season run with his GOW plays, regulars have come to rely on this 25-year vet. Larry's 'ASSAULT' on MLB's moneyline continues Friday with his Situational GOW. Any takers?

Tampa Bay Rays at Texas Rangers
Play:Rangers -106

Playing Major League Baseball games is not all about who is stepping onto the mound first and if it were, this would be an easy sport to handicap. Sometimes it is just like buying real estate. Location, location, location. We are in Arlington Texas tonight where some houses sell for one million dollars and we are at a place where the Texas Rangers like to play. This team is money here at this park and has been so for a very long time. In fact, over the last 12 years, they are Best Money Team in the American League when playing at home. This year, they have have been very competitive again and you will not get the Rays Thrower tonight to argue about that. While he has had some success verses the Rangers, he did not fair well earlier this year at this park. This Texas Team is Taylormade for this Park and they are especially terror verses righthanded throwers. They have maintained a .309 batting average verses righties here and they can score a lot of runs. They have to be super happy to be back in a situation that they love to be in. While they have no chance to go playoffing, they will like being in the limelight tonight, and eating some of the best beef brisket in the world. As good at Tampa Bay is, they are just soso when they travel at 2 games below .500 and this is one of the places where travel to the poorest. Matt Garza was a Homer at Minnesota, and he is a Homer this year as well. His Road numbers are well below par with an ERA of 5.37 and poor Innings/Hits Ratios. He has allowed 12 Dingers while flying across this country and the last time I checked, this is a very friendly park for those type of happenings. I am certainly not here to say that TB will not plate some runs tonight against the team that has the worst Pitching Staff in all of Baseball. We could easily see a ton of runs scored tonight. The Rays are hearing some VERY LOUD Hoofs coming at them from up East. The Rangers are just having fun and I think they will tonight, as TB continues to travel to strange places. The recent play of Texas gives us a nice betting line here, and I will grab it hard with my Texas BBQ stained fingers..

The world will love Cleveland tonight with Cliff Lee 16-2 and 2.45 ERA. Reasonable and makes sense, but too easy. The Angels have the best record in baseball and the best road record in the majors at remarkable 38-21. Against LH pitchers like Lee, the Halos are 23-8 this season and 22-8 against the money line vs. a starting pitcher with good control, who walks 1.75 batters or less a start this season. With the Indians only 16-21 after three or more consecutive home games this campaign and the Angels 23-10 as an underdog of +100 or higher in 2008, heavenly possibilities for Los Angeles.

Larry Ness' Oddsmaker's Error-MLB (11-5 in MLB since June 17)

Oddsmaker's Error is on the Bos Red Sox.

Any takers?

Larry and his "unmatched" contacts have been combining to provide winning selections in all sports for years on the net. Larry's won 11 of his L16 exclusive Las Vegas Insiders and going all the way back to May 26, his MLB Insiders are now 37-22! "It pays to be on the inside with Larry." Want in?

Matty O'Shea

BOS (-105) vs TOR

Toronto's Roy Halladay hasn't struggled against many teams during his career, but the Red Sox are certainly one of them. Look for the Red Sox to back their new teammate in this one and bet them as my Single Dime AL Underdog Play O' the Day.

Please note: Line movement has made the Sox a slight favorite here, but that doesn't change my mind on the play. In fact, I believe this is just another indicator that we're on the right side.

TEX (-110) vs TAM

The Rays have been one of the hottest teams in baseball, winning 12 of their last 15 games. so I'll continue to fade him again away from home here. Bet the Rangers as my Single Dime AL Favorite Play O' the Day.

Arizona Diamondbacks (62-59) at Houston Astros (62-59)
(R) Brandon Webb (17-4, 2.88 ERA) vs. (L) Wandy Rodriguez (7-4, 3.89)
The Houston Astros are on a roll, winning their last eight games. But will have a big task tonight when they host the Diamondbacks and their ace Brandon Webb. Arizona has beaten Houston in six of the last seven meetings and have won Webb's last 4 starts versus the Astros. The right-hander is 4-1 with a 1.75 ERA in seven career starts against the Astros. Houston counters with Wandy Rodriguez. The left-hander is 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in four career outings against the Diamondbacks. Houston has dropped five of Rodriguez's last 7 starts at home. Go with the Diamondbacks!

NFL Preseason Football
Titans/Raiders Under 35
Both teams have great opening preseason weeks. Both teams really ran the football well. Oakland who was last in the league last year against the run will get a stiff test today against a good Titans run game. The Raiders usually have a good pass defense which will allow them to focus on stopping the run which is an area they need to improve in. When it comes to the Raiders offense well lets be honest it just stinks. Even when Oakland does put together a good drive someone gets a personal foul to take them out of it. Both teams will run the ball a lot tonight chewing up the clock. As a side not the Titans kicker will not play tonight. Nothing better than a 8 minute drive with a missed FG by a backup to help your total play. Let's take the Under.
