Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago White Sox

Boston Red Sox -109

The Red Sox are really pushing to make a run at the Rays for the AL East Pennant. They've won 5 of their last 6 on the road for starters. Boston has really rallied behind John Lester this year and just some of that proof can be see in their numbers when Lester starts against any team with a winning record where the Red Sox have won his last 6 starts in a row. Chicago, on the other hand, has lost 4 of their last 5 against teams with a winning record and they've lost 5 in a row as the underdog in their matchup.

Game: Houston Astros at Cincinnati Reds Aug 8 2008 7:10PM
Prediction: Cincinnati Reds

Reason: Play On: Cincinnati w/Cueto vs Wolf
The Reds and Astros meet in the 2nd of a four-game weekend series this evening when Johnny Cueto takes on Randy Wolf in the Queen City. A quick check of each hurlers' home and road dichotomies this season tells us all we need to know here as Cueto home ERA is a full run better than on the road while Wolf's road ERA is more than 3.5 runs worse than his home ERA. With the Reds 9-3 on Fridays, including 5-1 at home, look for the home team to improve to 17-7 in Cueto's starts here tonight.

Jimmy The Moose

Game: Cleveland Indians at Toronto Blue Jays Aug 8 2008 7:05PM
Prediction: Cleveland Indians

Reason: Cleveland is 8-3 in their last 11 vs. AL East opponents. The Indians are 4-1 in their last 5 opening games of a series. The Indians send Reyes to the mound to make his first start as an Indian and he'll be facing a Blue Jays team that has struggled to hit all season long. Look for Reyes to keep the Jays off balance tonight. The Blue Jays are coming off a 4-game sweep of the A's and will have a harder time in this series vs. an Indian team they struggle against of late. The Jays are 7-20 in the last 27 meetings between the clubs. Play on the Cleveland Indians +.

Big Al Mcmordie

Game: Houston Astros at Cincinnati Reds Aug 8 2008 7:10PM
Prediction: Houston Astros

Reason: At 7:10pm our member selection is on the Houston Astros over the Cincinnati Reds. If ever a pitcher needed a change of scenery, it's 31-year-old lefthander Randy Wolf, and the recent move from the weak-hitting Padres to the Astros would seem to be a win-win for both Wolf and Houston. After spending the better part of the past two seasons on two NL West, offensively-challenged clubs (Wolf was with the Dodgers in 2007 before joining San Diego in the off-season), he finally finds himself on a team that can give him the type of run support he will need to thrive. And Houston caught fire lately having recently won eight of nine games between July 27 and August 4, and although the Astros are too far back in NL Central to make a serious run at the postseason this year, they can certainly still play the role of spoiler. The Reds' Johnny Cueto will be a very good starter some day, but that day is still probably at least a year away as Cueto is barely 22 years old and although he throws in the mid-to-high 90s, he lacks the maturity to effectively mix his pitches and that will only come with more seasoning. Let's hope the Reds don't burn him out by giving him too many innings too soon. They would be wise to give Cueto some rest before the end of this season. Take the 'Stros tonight behind the veteran Wolf.

Philadelphia at PITTSBURGH (-1) Bobby Maxwell

Experienced backup QBs are the key to this battle for Pennsylvania. These two squads get together every preseason and this year they open their August exhibition season at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

The home team seems to always pull it out in this series, going 3-0 SU and ATS the last three preseason meetings. Last year the Steelers got a 27-13 win as three-point favorites and they're right back in Pittsburgh for this one.

The Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger will just play the opening series tonight, followed by Charlie Batch and then rookies Dennis Dixon and Mike Potts. Dixon could be a keeper for the Steelers. Expect him to move the team up and down the field.

Philadelphia will go with Donovan McNabb early and then give the middle quarters to A.J. Feeley and Kevin Kolb will close it out. The Eagles have some defensive injuries that could hurt them tonight and they are 0-2 SU and ATS in last year's preseason and just 1-7 SU (3-5 ATS) the last three preseasons.

Pittsburgh was 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS last August and they'll get off on the right foot with this one. Play the Steelers.

3♦ PITTSBURGH

L.A. Dodgers (-120) at SAN FRANCISCO

Has any trade deadline acquisition had as much of an impact as Manny Ramirez in Los Angeles? He's homered in four of the six games he's worn blue and the Dodgers offense seems much more fluid and confident. This move could win the Dodgers the A.L. West.

Tonight we're going with them to get the job done in San Francisco as they send Brad Penny (5-9, 5.88 ERA) to the mound against the Giants Barry Zito (6-13, 5.40).

Penny hasn't pitched since June 14 and is coming off the DL with a sore shoulder. He had a rehab start in Las Vegas on Saturday and tonight he'll be limited to about 90 pitches. He knows how to beat the Giants, downing them on opening day, allowing four hits in 6.2 innings of a 5-0 victory. He's 4-2 with a 2.99 ERA as a Dodger against the Giants.

Zito is 4-3 with a 4.27 ERA in eight starts against the Dodgers and even though he looked good on Saturday against San Diego's anemic offense, he won't follow it up tonight. He'll fall back to the form he's had all season.

Play the Dodgers to win this one.

2♦ L.A. DODGERS

Seattle at MINNESOTA (-3) Sports Gambling Hotline

Thursday preseason winner on Kansas City in the NFL, and tonight we like the "home cooking", and the Minnesota Vikings to prevail against Seattle.

By all account Tarvaris Jackson is making great strides under center, and while last season was certainly a "growing" experience for the young signal-caller, look for him to be a tad better in all areas as this season progresses.

Minnesota does have the veteran Gus Frerrotte to back up Jackson, and will also use Brooks Bollinger, and John Booty to round out this home game in the dome. Both Frerrotte, and Bollinger have seen plenty of action at this level, and should be A-OK in moving the Norsemen offense.

Seattle usually starts slow in the preseason, and they do have their home opener lined up for next Saturday night against Chicago.

This game should be close for a while, but with Minnesota one of the "chic" picks this year in the NFC to surprise, we will lean to the Vikes to get the cover in the closing minutes of this one.

My free pick of the day is the game between (971) CLE Indians and (972) TOR Blue Jays. Take "(971) CLE Indians".
Anthony Reyes burst on the scene as a top prospect a few years back with the Cardinals, but never lived up to the tease. Now he's got a chance for a new start with the Indians. Reyes has looked good at AAA since the move. Of course, he's excelled at that level previously, so I'm not going overboard with enthusiasm. But his stuff is more than good enough to succeed in the show. I'm not sure that holds true for David Purcey. The Blue Jays starter is prone to the long ball and frequently loses the strike zone. I don't see him as reliable chalk and I'll give Reyes and the Indians
a good shot tonight.

Jim Feist

My free pick of the day is the game between (975) BOS Red Sox and (976) CHW White Sox. Take "Under". Boston hits well at home, but averages 1.3 runs per game less on the road. This offense has not been sharp against lefties the last few years and faces a very good southpaw in Mark Buehrle. Boston lefty Jon Lester has been outstanding, at 10-3 with a 3.14 ERA, emerging as a real stopper. He's on a roll, at 3-0 his last 3 starts with a 1.69 ERA! Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen has has been focused on using better defensive players in the infield of late. This total is too high, play the Red Sox/White Sox under the total.

St Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs (MLB) - Aug 8, 2008 2:20 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: -155 Chicago Cubs

Chicago took care of business last week by sweeping division rival Milwaukee. Now, with a six-game lead on St. Louis, the Cubs would love to get a little more breathing room between themselves and the Cardinals.

In order to get this series started out on the right foot, the Cubbies will turn to southpaw Ted Lilly. The Torrance, California product has been dynamite in his last four starts. Facing the Pirates, Brewers, Diamondbacks and Astros, Lilly has been touched for only eight earned runs and 25 hits in 25.1 innings of work. Equally impressive, with No. 30 on the bump, Chicago has cashed eight of its last nine at Wrigley and seven of its last eight matched up against a greater than .500 foe.

St. Louis will counter with Brandon Looper. Even though the former Wichita State Shocker has pitched well in his last three starts, this is NOT the spot for Brandon. With the lights turned off, Looper has struggled something fierce. With 30.0 innings of daytime work in the bank, No. 41 has been clocked for 22 earned runs and 45 hits. That adds up to a lofty 6.60 ERA! To make matters worse, with Brandon on the bump, the Cardinals have dropped eight straight on foreign soil matched up against a greater than .500 foe.

Chicago has been awesome as home chalk cashing 41 of its last 53 and nailed 22 of its last 30 in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field matched up against a right-handed pitcher. Meanwhile, St. Louis has dropped 10 of its last 13 against winning teams.

The Cubs enjoyed an off day on Thursday and catch the Cards ragged off their tough series against the Dodgers. Lay the lumber here men. Take Chicago with listed pitcher Lilly.

Texas Rangers vs. Baltimore Orioles (MLB) - Aug 8, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
Play: Total: 9.5/-117 Over

This is why the call me "MONEY." A 4-1 day overall on Thursday. Building that bankroll daily. Tonight, my free selection is on the Rangers/Orioles OVER. Rangers have played 11-3-1 over their last 13 and 7 of their last 9 as road dogs. They have gone over in 5 straight on the road and have gone 6-1-1 over in Mendoza's last 8 eight outings including 4 straight road overs. These two teams have gone over in 4 of the last 5 in Baltimore. Be sure to cash in tonight on my NFL Blitz going late tonight.

Game: Washington Nationals at Milwaukee Brewers Aug 8 2008 8:05PM

Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers

Reason: Milwaukee sends CC Sabathia to the mound as they host Washington on Friday evening. Washington 15-26 against southpaws this year and now faces a Milwaukee squad that's an incredible 5-1 behind Sabathia since he joined the team two months back. Expect another strong home performance from the former Indian's ace.

7* Play On Milwaukee

Matt Rivers

Friday take the monster price back with the Nationals.

I cannot sit here and honestly tell you that I think I will win this game with the well inferior Nationals but how can you pass up this number with a team that, believe it or not, has been great of late. Sure Washington has a dismal record and is not a very talented ballclub but Manny Acta's boys have been very very solid of late including sweeping the Reds to end last week and then pounding the Rockies at Coors over the past few days including that doubleheader yesterday.

Collin Balester is not close to being on the same level with a red hot and great CC Sabathia and the Brewers are super talented and at home with everything going their way here. Once again though I put in a "but" in here as the pesky Nats are feeling great about themselves thanks to some recent victories and with Zimmerman and Guzman back healthy and in the lineup at least there is some pop and professionalism for the visitors.

If Sabathia hurls another phenomenal game then I will tip my hat and move on but at this price with the Nats playing at the highest level they have played all season long and with a guy in Ballester who has been really solid of late why not take a shot here at this gargantuan number!?!?!?

Washington Nationals @ Milwaukee Brewers Aug 8, 2008 8:05PM
SPORT: Major League Baseball Picks
PICK: Washington Nationals + 275

REASON FOR PICK: It has been quite a while since I saw this big of an underdog. Milwaukee starter CC Sabathia has been everything and more the Brewers could have wanted so far. He's 5-0 with a 1.88 ERA in six starts for Milwaukee.

But the underdog Nationals have a few things going their way for this matchup. Sabathia has averaged 114 pitches during his last five starts. He's also never faced Washington before.

The Nationals are playing well, winning six of their last seven. They are going with young players, such as second baseman Emilio Bonifacio, and are loose feeling no pressure. Lasting Milledge is swinging a hot bat with four homers in his last six games.

Washington swept a double-header from Colorado at Coors Field on Thursday. That has to boost the Nationals' confidence.

Washington stater Collin Balestar is one of the Nationals' better young pitchers. He has a 3.31 ERA in three starts since the All-Star break.

The Nationals just may steal this series-opener.

Game: Atlanta (Campillo) @ Arizona (Davis)
Date/Time: 8/8/2008 9:40PM EST
Pick: Under 9.0 (-115)

Play On: Under 9.0 (-115)

The Braves have gone over the total in just 17 of their 57 away games this season. The Atlanta starter Campillo enters the game in sizzling hot form off of his last 4 starts posting a 0.81 ERA, a 0.86 WHIP, and a better than 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio. In 6 starts on the road this season Campillo has posted a stellar 2.08 ERA. Campillo has seen just 1 of his last 8 starts go over the total when pitching on 4 days of rest. Atlanta has gone under the total in 23 of their last 29 as an underdog of 1.50 or less. The Arizona starter Doug Davis enters the game in good form off of his last 3 starts posting a solid 1.16 WHIP. Play on under the total as my free selection of the night.

Selection: Baltimore Orioles -1.5 Runs (+120)

Reason: Put us down on the Baltimore Orioles -1.5 Runs (+120) for our Free MLB Selection on Friday. Today the Texas Rangers will be on the road as they take on the Baltimore Orioles. We will side with the Baltimore Orioles -1.5 Runs! One reason why we will side with the Baltimore Orioles is because they will be sending to the mound the much superior starting pitcher. This say it all... The Texas Rangers Starting Pitcher (Luis Mendoza) has a 8.27 ERA in his last 3 starts, while Baltimore Orioles Starting Pitcher (Jeremy Guthrie) has a 1.71 ERA in his last 3 starts. As you can see, the Baltimore Orioles will be sending to the mound the much superior pitcher. We see the Baltimore Orioles getting another blowout win tonight!

Take the Baltimore Orioles -1.5 Runs!

Game: Washington Nationals vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Plays On: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 Runs (-125)

Game Analyses: The Milwaukee Brewers should be able to get a blowout win against the Washington Nationals. With that said, we will side with the Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 Run!

The Washington Nationals will be lead by starting pitcher Colin Balester. Colin Balester has been having pitching problems this season. In fact, Colin Balester has a 4.55 ERA on the season. We see Colin Balester pitching another bad game today.

The Milwaukee Brewers will be lead by starting pitcher CC Sabathia. CC Sabathia has been pitching very well since joining the Milwaukee Brewers. In fact, CC Sabathia is a Perfect 5-0 with a 1.88 ERA. We see CC Sabathia pitching another great game today.

The Washington Nationals are 19-38 in their last 57 road games, while the Milwaukee Brewers are 20-7 in their last 27 home games.

The Milwaukee Brewers are 9-4 in their last 13 meetings against the Washington Nationals (when playing in Milwaukee), and should be able to get another blowout win tonight!

Take the Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 Runs!

Matchup: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants Over 8

Selection: Los Angeles/San Francisco Over 8 (-110)

Explanation: We expect a high-scoring game as the Los Angeles Dodgers face-off against the San Francisco Giants in Friday's MLB contest.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will use starting pitcher Brad Penny. Brad Penny has been struggling this season. In fact, Brad Penny has a 5.88 ERA on the season. We see Brad Penny giving up many runs once again today.

The San Francisco Giants will use starting pitcher Barry Zito. Barry Zito has also struggled this season. In fact, Barry Zito has a 5.40 ERA on the season. We see Barry Zito also giving up many runs once again today.

Trend: The Over is 10-3 in the San Francisco Giants last 13 home games.

Take the Los Angeles Dodgers/San Francisco Giants Over 8!

Larry Ness

Cleveland Indians @ Toronto Blue Jays
PICK: Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays went "Back to the Future" when they hired former manger Cito Gaston (won World Series titles in '92 and '93) and it's paid off. Toronto is 24-17 under Gaston, including a 17-9 mark since July 17 (only the Angels at 17-8, are better in all of MLB in that span). The Blue Jays just completed a four-game home sweep of the pathetic A's (have lost 10 straight and 19 of 21) and now get the Indians this weekend, who own an AL-worst 20-38 road mark. At minus-$1,741 against the moneyline on the road, only the Braves (minus-$1,771) are bigger "money-burners" away from home than Cleveland. Rookie David Purcey (1-2, 8.35 ERA) gets the nod for Toronto and about the only positive I can come up with is that he's a lefty and the Indians are 11-18 vs left-handers this year, including 4-11 on the road. However, he'll be backed by a team that's won 14 of its last 18 home games and facing a pitcher making his first start of 2008. Anthony Reyes will make his first appearance with the Indians since they acquired him from St Louis right before the trade deadline. Once upon a time, Reyes was considered one of the Cards' top prospects (he did win Game 1 of the 2006 World Series) but Reyes was just AWFUL in 2007, going 2-14 with a 6.04 ERA. The Cards went 4-16 in his 20 starts last year and his moneyline mark of minus-$1,449 made him MLB's 4th-biggest "money-burner" among starters in '07. In '08, he was NEVER given a start by St Louis and enters this game 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA in 10 relief appearances. Take Toronto.

Rocketman

NY Yankees @ LA Angels
Play On: 1* LA Angels -130

LA Angels are 32-13 this year when the total is 9 to 9 1/2. NY Yankees are scoring only 4.4 runs per game on the road this season. LA Angels bullpen has a 3.84 ERA overall this year. Kennedy is 0-3 with a 7.41 ERA in all games this year, 0-3 with a 7.53 ERA in all starts and 0-2 with a 7.48 ERA on the road this season. Weaver has a 3.69 ERA at home this year. We'll recommend a small play on the LA Angels

Michael Cannon

Pittsburgh +160 at PHILADELPHIA

Take the Pirates as the big road dog tonight over the Phillies.

With Paul Maholm taking the mound, why not take a chance at this price?

Maholm has easily been the Pirates best starter this season. The left-hander is constantly giving the Bucs six or seven quality innings and his 3.95 ERA is something the Pirates only wish they could get from the rest of their staff.

Maholm is also 3-1 with a 4.67 ERA in four career games against Philadelphia.

Joe Blanton will start for the Phillies and it?s not like this guy is a Cy Young candidate. The right-hander is just 6-12 on the year, although he?s 1-0 with Philly.

Still, at this price I?ll take my chances with Maholm and a Pirates offense that is still capable of putting up some runs despite the trades of Jason Bay and Xavier Nady.

Take the Pirates as the big road dog.

2♦ PITTSBURGH

Philadelphia at PITTSBURGH -1

Let?s make it an all-Pittsburgh free play night. Make those steel-town people proud.

Take the Steelers over the Eagles tonight.

This line has dropped from -3 down to -1 or a pick, depending on your book, so all the Steelers have to do is win and we basically cover.

Coach Mike Tomlin stated that there will be a lot of Rashard Mendenhall and Limus Sweed tonight, the Steelers top-two draft picks.

I can think of worse things than showcasing young, high draft picks in the exhibition season.

The Eagles basically know what they have on offense, so don?t look for Donovan McNabb to play more than a series, and Brian Westbrook obviously won?t be in the lineup at all.

The Steelers won?t play quarterback Ben Roethlisberger much at all either, but with Charlie Batch and Dennis Dixon following him in the rotation I?m not worried about the Steelers offense.

Take the Steelers as they grab the win and cover.

2♦ PITTSBURGH

Drew Gordon

Florida +125 at NY METS

Needless to say, this is a critical series for both teams, but its the Marlins who are playing rock-solid baseball, taking 2 of 3 at the NL East-leading Phillies over the last 3 days! The Mets meanwhile, needed a walk-off homer from David Wright to beat a terrible San Diego club yesteday, and come into this game losers of 6 of their last 9 games.

The pitching match up is close, but you've got to give the edge to the Marlins surging ace Ricky Nolasco, who's coming off an excellent start against the Rockies, allowing 3 runs over 8 innings, while striking out 13 for the win. We should expect another solid start tonight for two reasons: A. Nolasco is 2-0 with a 2.43 ERA over his last 4 road starts. And B. He's won his last two games at Shea, posting a solid 3.60 ERA in the process.

Opposing Nolasco is the Mets Oliver Perez, who admittingly has pitched well of late. However, he's been up and down against the Marlins, pitching well in South Florida (2-0, allowing 1 run over 12 innings), but not so much at Shea, allowing 5 runs in 6 innings back on May 28th. Herein lies the problem for Perez, because the Marlins have hit lefties particulaly well over their last 10 games, batting .288 against them, with wins against lefties Hamels, Moyer (Marlin-Killer), De Los Santos, and De La Rosa over that span.

Bottom line, expect a close contest here, but in the end, its the Marlins who are playing better ball, have the better starter, and the better bullpen. So if it comes down to it (which I expect), you know the Mets are in trouble, with their 'pen posting a ridiculous 6.94 ERA over their last 10 games! Fish roll!

Take Florida behind Nolasco over the NY Mets and Perez in this MLB match up.

2♦ FLORIDA

Seattle at MINNESOTA -3

Several reasons to like the Vikings here, but let's start with a much improved Minnesota team all around, playing in their home opener. Guys, we all know the expectations surrounding this Vikings team are sky high, and players and coaches alike will be fighting hard to get off on the right foot. While Seattle could really care less about this contest (as well they shouldn't), when all is said and done.

As with all preseason games, one has to consider the QB rotation, and the fact of the matter is that its the back end of the Vikings rotation what makes the difference. Both Hasselback and Wallace are well versed in their system and should be able to move the ball, and you can say the same about Jackson and Frerrote. However, its the Vikes Bollinger and rookie John David Booty who will shine against mostly 3rd stringers late in this contest.

Also, although this is an exhibition game, let's not forget the last time these two teams played, when the 'Hawks crushed the Vikings in Seattle 30-13. Of course, beating them in August means nothing, but after looking terrible top-to-bottom against this Seattle team in their last meeting, I expect a much more focused effort this time around.

Bottom line, motivation is a key factor in exhibition, because in a meaningless game, played by mostly no-names, the team who plays harder usually wins. In this case, the Vikings are in their home opener, with a big ol' spotlight on their starting QB Jackson and the rest of this Minnesota squad. While I expect the game will be close, in the end, the Vikings protect their house and grab the cash.

Take Minnesota over Seattle in this NFL Preseason match up.

2♦ MINNESOTA

Detroit Tigers -150

The Oakland As enter into this game against their hosts Detroit in a big time funk having lost 10 straight games. They are struggling so badly, that I doubt they can take advantage of the aging hurler Kenny Rogers (8-8, 4.98 ERA). The veteran of 19 years , has always pitched well against the As and in 36 starts in this series is 21-7, along with a 4.28 ERA, including a current 7-0 run in his L/9 starts again them. I expect more success is on the agenda for the southpaw against a Oakland team that has has lost seven consecutive series , and 17 of their L/19 tilts since the All-Star break.

Meanwhile, Dallas Braden (2-2, 5.10) fires back for the A's. Since being called up from the minors in July, Braden is 1-2 with a 5.29 ERA 5 outings including 3 starts. The lefty thrower has been bombed by the Tigers in the past , recording a 0-1 mark along with a 12.34 ERA in three starts . I expect the men from Motown to hammer him again in a contest that will be a one sided affair favoring the host team.

Final notes & Key Trends: Rogers team is 32-12 L/44 when he starts in night games.

1 Unit on Philadelphia Phillies -170

The juice is worth the squeeze in this case as the Phillies are deserving of big chalk against their inferior in-state rivals. Right away we see a big system in our favor: Plays against all underdogs with a money line of +100 or higher (PITTSBURGH) - after 4 straight games where they stranded 7 or less runners on base, with a struggling bullpen whose ERA is over 8.00 the last 5 games are 98-33 the last 5 seasons. I expect a potent Phillies lineup to murder the Pittsburgh pen in this one. Pittsburgh is also just 12-45 against the money line in road games vs. teams outscoring opponents by 0.5 or more runs/game on the season over the last 3 seasons. We'll take Philly here.

PICK: over 9.5

4* HOUSTON/CINCINNATI Over

When the early markets started dropping this Total we thought we would wait a bit to see if any 9?s emerged, but it looks like the movement has stalled. That means time to play, and the lower juice offered on 9.5?s right now (+105 can be had) off ample value.

We have told the Randy Wolf story over and over this season - he was solid in Petco Park, which is not all that difficult to do, but on the road it has been another matter entirely - how about a 1-6/6.60? And in truth he is even worse than that. There are 133 pitchers that have worked at least 80 innings so far this season, and his difficulty of batters faced checks in at #126. When you factor those advantages with the number of innings he threw in Petco his overall 7-10/4.60 makes him look better than he really is, and therefore a most over-rated item in this setting, particularly with the perceived ?form? he showed in working five shutout innings vs. the Mets in his last outing. Yes, he threw five zeroes, but no, he was nothing special - he allowed six hits and three walks, with nine of the 14 batters he faced reaching base.

Meanwhile Johnny Cueto has not only been a disappointment at 7-11/5.00, but now runs the risk of hitting ?the wall?, which can happen to a pitcher that is not a big physical specimen (5-11/185), and is now at 135 innings. Cueto has shown signs of just that in working to a 6.56 tune since the All Star break, despite the fact that 12 of those 23.1 innings came vs. the Padres and Nationals. And in losing twice to these Astros already he has been rocked for 10 runs on 16 hits, including a pair of home runs, over 13 innings. His current form hardly dictates that the third time around becomes the charm.

These two played to an 11 last night, but the count could have been much higher - 23 runners reached base via a hit or a walk without scoring. We look for more of the same here, with both bullpens getting plenty of work after Wolf and Cueto struggle early.
