fridays games.....

Have a few strong plays today but one "luv" game.I don't have very many "luv" games until Jan. and Feb.But tonite in my own backyard there is one.

LaSalle +5 over Marist- the line was 4.5 but it just jumped to 5.Marist is 7-2 and 5-0 at home. They are 5-1 ats. They have won 21-23 home games. They play in a tough gym where the court appears to be smaller then it really is.In HS I was 8-0 there in regional games for the state playoffs. Also won an AAU girls championship there. It's a shooters gym.My kid still holds a NY HS record there by hitting 7 tre's in a game. The Foxes shoot well at home. But the problem is so does everyone else.
Magarity is a good coach. His kids play hard, have a balanced attack with 4 returning starters and they defend well. They recently were ranked 55 out of 324 in the RPI rankings.
Sean kennedy is one of the best pt gds in the US.Is in the top 2 or 3 in assits. Can bang them from the arc.Smith the other gd is just shy of 1,000 pts.Eppehimer is a 6'7 3 man that can shoot.Tullis inside is probaly their best player. They have a balanced scoring attack.
But in comes LaSalle an A-10 team with probaly one of the top 10 players in the country.Butler is 2nd in the nation in scoring 24.6.Shooting 52% FG and 48% from behind the arc.He has been a one man wrecking crew.Has scored 30 or more pts in last 4 games and thats vs. double teams and gimmicks.Okasa has stepped up his game avg 10 pts and 7 bds.Blanks has also stepped up.
Hahn has done a pretty good job in his 1st yr.He is installing everything he learned with Calhoun. They have beaten on the road already Seton hall,Nova, and UAB.They own a 5-2 away record.
Marist schedule hasn't been really tested yet. They have beaten the Central Fl's,Siena's,Riders,Drexals, etc. There 2 toughest opponets were Mass and B.Green and they lost them both.
I think this game will be a close one.Marist is talented. But Lasalle is a bit better.Just a little stronger inside.I'm not sure the Foxes defense can stop the Explorers.I know marist can score on Lasalle. But LaSalle has a "stud".I think this game is close and goes down to the wire.I think LaSalle wins this by a few pts.
My heart says Red Foxes. But my wallet says Butler and co.Getting +5 is a lot of pts.I'm grabbing them.

Bonnies +10.5 over Conn
Think the Bonnies can keep this under double digits.Quinnipiac gave the Huskies all sorts of problems the other nite.Bonnies are solid at gd play with breemer and green.Prato can shoot.Bonnies inside game worries me vs the other Butler.Selvie and okafar are tough inside.Gorden I luv from seeing him in HS the past 3 yrs.Think they keep this close.

South Bama -6 over Middle Tenn
Sbama is 0-2 ats at home.but MT is 0-5 away,0-2 ats.MT has lost on the road to EC by 10,Tex-P-AM 2,Tenn-Mar 6,Radford19 and Belmont by 6.The Williams boys and SAB defense shuts down MT.

Rhode island +9 over brown
Just way to many pts to give.Other then brown beating Prov. there other wins are vs North east,Wagner,CetConn,Stonet brook.RI has played a tougher schedule. But their defense is so bad.brown has a stud in Hunt but Baron has stopped many solid ball players when he was at Bonnie.

New orleans +12 over WKU
WKU is still tough w/o their "aircraft carrier".They gave LSU a good game.I think they can keep it close.

Smoo -9 over boise st.
think hancock and Ross are to much for Boise. This team already lost on the road to SD by 16,E-Wash 7,

ECAC games are tough tonite.I watched both of them yest.
I'll take the hall -5 over Fordham. But fordham looked so bad last nite.26 To's.Thats over 200 in 9 games.Passes I can't believe that were thrown.Muggsy green of manhattan had 8 steals and six of them he didn't know he stole.Mush parker is talented but cannot pass with any consistency.Orr can't coach.Has no control of the hall players.Lane didn't show up from X-mas vacation. His status tonite is unknown.Orr will probaly start him if lane gets into his face. These are 2 terrible teams that got their ass whipped last nite. How these 2 teams show up tonite in the Garden amazes me.I would be so embarrased.Fordham had 5 players foul out and a few fights almost broke out at the end.

Manhattan -6 over Iona.
green controlled the game yest vs Fordham. But he had his nail ripped off him with 2 minuts to go in the game.In the post game show you could see the bandage around his thumb. If he's not 100% I'll take my Iona team.I'm 5-1 ats with them. They looked sloopy in their win last nite.Dyree there best player shot 2-11.Probaly will pass on this game or take the dog and the 6.Not a strong play for the Jaspers

Smaller plays JMU -12 over Cornell.in fact I like this game a lot.Cornell is bad.JMU has a balanced attack. But Cornell has 2 or 3 players back from injuries I think.Still I'll give the 12 pts.
Cal over harvard -25
hope everyone does good tonite..gl

Thank you dizzy.
Maggio, how are you?Long time. Thanks for the kind words.
Thought of you the other nite.Got a new DVD-CD home center from my brother-in-law for X-mas.Can't believe the sound system. Had some friends over and a little vino and we watched "The godfather".Well the Johnny Fontaine scene comes up with the horses head, etc and one of my friends tells us the famos story of "thats really based on frank Sinatra" and the movie is "From here to eternity".I then say "yea he played the character Maggio in the movie".And everyone in the room just said"damn is there anything you don't know box". ha. Yes I thought of you for a second.
Hope you doing well. Are you still in Florida?
the last couple of days I've been doing pretty good. With no school and my wife working a few 12 hour shifts I've had some time for this. But this weekend she's home and we are "bonding "together.
Hope you had a nice holiday..

Hi Box
Yes I'm still in Fla.
Tampa Bay Downs is back open so we have some
live horse racing now.
As for The Godfather, hey box, trust me,
it was purely fiction created by Mario Puzo.
Sinatra's career did not include a horse's head.<g>
The likeness of Johnny Fontaine was closely
connceted to his life however....
and that's what pissed Sinatra off so much.
He wrote the story so close to Frank's own
life story but then it became just a good story for the movie.
The famous singer, down on his luck, marrying
Ava Gardner and upsetting MGM, the bandleader
that wouldn't let him out of his contract was Tommy Dorsey, and actually the truth is that Eli Wallach was chosen for the part of Maggio in "From Here to Eternity" but had to bow out due to a broadway commitment, so Sinatra was second choice.
He begged for the job and Ava Gardner who was very big at the time aske the producer Harry Cohn to give Frank an audition for the part.
He was paid a minimum fee of $8000 for the entire part. And that Box is the true story.
Sinatra never spoke to Puzo again and was going to sue, but he was talked out of it.
Back in the good old days of Vegas Frank worked for a lot of mobsters...they all did.
they owned all the casinos.
But the "Horse's head story" and Johnny Fontaine was purely a great story by Mario Puzo and nother more.
But Sinatra had to live with it all those many years in life and now even in death.

GL on your plays this weekend.
