After two months and more than 10,000 deaths that have made the nation?s nursing homes some of the most terrifying places to be during the coronavirus crisis, most of them still don?t have access to enough tests to help control outbreaks among their frail, elderly residents.

So one out of every 4.8 deaths have come from nursing homes? or around 22 percent?Hmmmm...So how many died in the 'war zones' we read about? or in the hallways of Detroit hospitals? Has this been a bad over reaction? or is the second wave going to kill us all? NOT discounting ANY deaths, but take the 10 k from nursing homes and the 18 k from New York and NATIONWIDE the new number is 20 k ,,AM i correct or am i missing something? Out of 326 million..

On the course!
That's why it will be important to keep an eye on Georgia in the next three weeks.

If they pass inspection, I guess we go!

But, dont overlook what is happening in the close quarters of these processing plants. Hundreds are getting the virus in these places.

Is that 10k part of the official 49k or an estimate?

The answer to your questions involves two things which aren't definitively knowable - 1) is this like other pandemics where the actual death total is 8-10x what the "official" count is? and 2) what would the numbers have looked like without the actions we took?

But no matter where you come down on either of those questions, you can't escape having to do some form of calculation between human life and economic viability. In many ways we are seeing a real-life version of the Trolley Problem, a famous thought experiment whereby you have the choice of either doing nothing and letting a runaway train kill 5 people, or intentionally diverting it and killing one person. Except in this case we don't actually know how many people are standing on each set of tracks and have to make the decision anyway!

Mom is in assisted living facility and they can not leave their small apartments.... They bring every meal to each room with PPE gear. They do not let anyone socialize at all or any visitors, no one has gotten sick with the virus yet :mj09:
She complains about being locked in her apartment room, I try to call each day so that she has interaction. I feel bad for folks that have it worse in a nursing home. Mom always does admit she could have it worse. I will be glad when they can socialize again, when ever that will be...

Hasn't Georgia issued a lot of restrictions and revamped their opening policy?

Georgia delayed or maybe the whole time on theatres and restaurants until Monday instead of tomorrow,,That is the only thing I have seen on that,,

YYZ,,, I agree,,,but we need to know the real story,,Please don't let a 674 year old person who a month ago was given less than a month to live and they die and they scream it was because of coronavirus because of an agenda

How many of those 10,000 can we conretely say they died SPECIFICALLY from COVID-19?

I don't like those clickbait articles that do not provide facts and only provide information that is not intirely vetted. It concerns me that people in the media have a voice and are just writing anything they can to grab a headline. IE - Kirk Herbstreit making bold claims that NCAAF won't happen. When you have a following and people respect your opinion (subjective statement here), you have an obligation to those people to shut the hell up and make claims that have merit and facts.

People are dying. Lives are being ruined. But we MUST react off facts and data, not emotions. If we want to be emotional all the sudden, then let's fucking put some time and effort into people dying every day from alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, and suicide to name a few.

In 2017, an average of 7,708 deaths occurred each day. January, February, and December were the months with the highest average daily number of deaths (8,478, 8,351, and 8,344, respectively). June, July, and August were the months with the lowest average daily number of deaths (7,298, 7,157, and 7,158, respectively).

Kirk Herbstreit is offering an opinion. Based on what he said, who fucking cares? It?s not like he?s advising people to ingest disinfectant.

I agree. But the media has caused panic into making everyone think that not only if you are sick you must have COVID19, but if you get sick, you're 100% going to die.

Case in point...My sister text me on Saturday morning saying she suddenly had chills and a fever. She said she thinks she has COVID19. I laughed (I probably shouldn't have), but told her to calm down and go through the symptoms. The only symptom she really had was the fever. She was still panicking and thinking irrationally. She went to the hospital anyways, got a test done, NEGATIVE. She's already feeling better today after taking some meds and drinking lots of water.

This girl just had a random fever and didn't feel well and she thought she had the god damn virus.
