Here's a nice little tournament in Scottsdale, AZ. Located right next, if not right in the most dangerous city in America, Phoenix. A million and a half people in the largest single slum I ever visited, dozens of times. This is the one place I go nowhere without my .357 in my pocket. Shut up Tommy. This is not a social commentary forum, it's golf.
Not much history here, third time for the Fry's tourney. Fry's is a grocery chain morphed into an electronics chain. Smart people those Frys. Weir won the first one and Beckman won last year. Weir is the big favorite this time since no big name players entered.
The course is fairly easy, actually mostly easy. About the same as last week but without the possibility of a big number here and there. The pro who shoots 8 or 9 under on Sunday will probably win. The layout is one of those hacked out of the desert by a bulldozer deals. Artificial whoop-de-doos everywhere, man made lake, pond really, and few if any large trees or obstructions. It feels spread out, and I think it is, I like that.
My handicapping here is limited, by history, and quality of the field. I always feel that anyone could win one of these fall series events. Like last week. So I say, why bet on Weir at 15-1 when you can bet on........
Goggin to win 61.00 sia
Matt played really well the first part of this season, and maybe he will here too. He did good here last year, enough to get the full point from me. The one knock I have against Goggin is that he seems to be content just to be on the tour, and make a good living. But sooner or later he will crank it up, much like Glover did this year, and Ryan Moore is in the process of doing right now. Maybe this is the week.
I have no 72 hole M/U pick yet. Of the 8 offered, nothing really jumped out at me. It would be a straight dart throw gamble, maybe I will do it. GLAA.
