Not sure if this has been posted here yet but Mississippi State's starting QB has been suspended from the game by the NCAA and did not make the trip to Eugene Oregon.

The violation has something to do with the purchase of tires. MSU self-reported it in April.

Their starter practiced all week, so I guess the suspension just came down. It looks like MSU will have to go with a redshirt freshman QB, not a good way to win a game at Autzen Stadium.

This line is about to move.

It was posted already & the line did move. I bet it at -8 right before the news started breaking, then it started moving up to 10, 11 at some books then right after it went OTB at most shops.

MSU Appeal To Reinstate QB Kevin Fant Denied

By: MSU Athletic Department Media Relations
Date: August 30, 2002

Mississippi State?s appeal to restore the eligibility of junior quarterback Kevin Fant (Moss Point, Miss.) for Saturday?s season-opening game between the Bulldogs and the Oregon Ducks was denied by the NCAA Friday.

?Kevin Fant is suspended for this game due to a self-reported incident,? head football coach Jackie Sherrill said. ?Mississippi State and the Southeastern Conference believe the incident did not warrant a suspension.?

MSU officials self-reported a violation involving Fant to the NCAA earlier this week. The NCAA originally suspended Fant for one game Thursday. Fant did not travel with the team to Oregon Thursday night.

?We appealed this one-game suspension and were not granted the decision that we had wished,? Sherrill said. ?The incident is put behind us and we will move on.?

MSU redshirt freshman Kyle York (Spring, Texas) will be the starting quarterback when the Bulldogs face the nationally 15th-ranked Ducks at Autzen Stadium. Kickoff for the Fox Sports Net national telecast is 3 p.m. PT (5 p.m. CT).
