I had my pool guy take out my pool/spa heater because it was old and didn't heat the spa quick enough. I got a new one and it's ready except for the gas line. There's the pipe that was already run out to the old heater about a foot away from my new heater but I need it connected. Does anyone about how much something like this should cost? I was just quoted 500.00. I about shit my pants when the guy told me. I guess we always have an amount in our heads of what we think it will cost and that wasn't close to what I was thinking. The guy has to turn off my gas, unscrew a cap on my gas pipe that run out to it already, screw another line on to that pipe and run that line to the heater 1 foot away and then turn my gas back on. Maybe that's not it but I watched my pool guy take it out and it doesn't seem like much more than that.

get 4 or 5 bids..

demand time and material breakdown in cost..

when calling these companies to give you the bid make damn sure you tell them you will be asking for that breakdown in the bill..

bring up paying in CASH...and also no waste of your time if company refuses to breakdown the bill in both labor and material..

highly thought of companies are looking for work..

if you have access to "Angies List"

http://angieslist.com/

check there for highly recommended companies..

$500.00 bucks to splice in ...:scared

also check w/your local Pro Desk at Lowes and HomeDepot..

those guys and girls have "Favs" who they pass along work to all the time..

good luck buddy....

That is a screw job. I have a good friend who is a plumber, and he charges $85/hr. You are probably looking at less than $10 in materials and maybe 2 hours in labor. Some companies might have a three hour minimum, but I gaurantee you can find somebody to do it for cash (as Old School stated) w/o a problem now days.
