How do they have the right to sell domain names?

Did they buy all the rights way back when? And if so, from who?

Confused:shrug:

They're basically a broker of the domain names (called a registrar). If you are able to buy one for the standard $7.95, then it means that noone currently owns it.

GoDaddy, as a corporation, probably owns very few domains. There may be a legal conflict of interest with that.

That's probably an accurate way of looking at it.

The domains aren't owned by anyone until you register it. You are paying GoDaddy (or Register.com, networksolutions.com, 1and1.com, etc.) simply for their software platform to register and maintain your domain names.

I think the actual cost to register a domain wholesale is around $4.

what ones do you have your eyes on?

I own about 60 domains. I buy them as things hit me. Most of them are for business ideas/ventures that I toss around.

Currently, I get enough ad revenue to pay for about half of the registration fees. Starting work on one this week that I expect will cover the other half by year's end.

The feckhead that I bought tennesseevols.com from somehow was able to back out of the sale on me after the transaction was completed. Still not sure how that worked out.

It was bullshit. That's all I know.

One that I think would be pretty good that I own is themasterspool.com. I think you could write some basic contest software and get sponsors for it. Ad-based revenue "could" be decent from that.

I just don't want to put the money up right now to get it off the ground.

WOW!

I actually was looking for masters pools yesterday, and you could have had me!

There really isn't anything good out there.
