I hate betting on a team with poor talent, although sometimes it is the correct move. It really makes the game hard to watch.
There is no question that UNM is outmanned on defense. The offense however is not doing a bad job at all. What I cannot believe is the coach(es).
The play calling is screaming "There is no way in the world we can win unless we trick you". I understand that 2nd and short is a waste down from time to time, but not every 2nd and short!. Why all the trick plays when you are in the game and have shown signs of marching the ball down the field.
As I stated last night, I think Louisville's decision to go for it on 4th and goal was not the right call. It didn't come back to haunt them, but I am really surprised it didn't. My thoughts at that time were they had just put the final nail in their coffin.
There are different ways to look at this but I will stick to my position. UNM's 4th down decision worked out for them but I disagreed with it also. The coach definitely does not believe he can win the game. This is the wrong message to send to the players. They are not doing all that bad so far. Give your team a chance to win and do not demoralize them in the first half.
There are times to take chances and there are times to play it close to the vest.
Any opinions welcome.
