Hello, Mover. In answer to your inquiry, I really enjoy the Power Sweep newsletter from Northcoast Sports. There selections are good, but that's not what I like about the publication.

I really like a section they put out called "Misleading Scores", which tells about the previous week's games that had things happen that caused the score to be not indicative of what happened on the field.

I also like their injury reports, their trends section and the individual game write-ups.

Cost is around $120 per year. You can sign up at the end of the previous season for $89, which is what I do.

If you go to their web site (ncsports.com), you can download a sample issue.

Good luck with whatever you choose. Let me know what you find out.

Just posted a similar question in the general forum. Any main difference between Gold Sheet and ncsports? Really just looking for one service I can try out this year to see if it works for me. Looking to spend about this much so with GS at $99 and NC at $125 either one of these should do me just fine.

I have seen the Gold Sheet on occasion, but I can't remember enough of the details to be able to make a worthwhile comparison. As I said in my earlier post, you can download a free sample issue of the Power Sweep from their web site at ncsports.com.

Northcoast Sports is run by Phil Steele, if you have ever heard of him. The Power Sweep is a very comprehensive publication and I read it from front to back every week. Although I do not go by the selections in it, I do read his write-ups because he usually has good information, such as trends, injuries, and how he thinks back-ups will perform in terms of experience and prior performance.

He also has all the high level stats (FDs, RY, PY, Comp\Atts, and the like) from all the previous week's games, college and pro.

I think any serious football bettor would enjoy the publication.

By the way, Phil Steele's College Preview magazine is as good as their is, with a 2-page write-up on all major college teams. The Pro Preview comes out later, but is free with the purchase of the college issue at $9.95. Tons of detail, including returning lettermen, freshmen additions, transfers. Schedules, past records, and much more. Hours of reading for the serious fan! The pro issue is a must for fantasy players.

Thanks for info. Heleanth I looked at sample issue will give it a try. Do you get it mailed or e-mailed & is it on time? I spend a good portion of my day in my car doing appointments & most of the time I have a lull between them I want some condensed material to read . Last year I printed out so much info. from sites that my car was a complete mess. Thanks again GL

Mover, I always pick it up off the web site. They give you a 5 digit passcode and it is available at 1:00 p.m. every Tuesday. I just download it and print it. I think you need Adobe Acrobat version 5.0. They are always 8 pages, except for special issues, such as the bowl issue.

It generally comes in the mail on Thursday, although occasionally it shows up on Friday (and rarely, Saturday). They are generally very helpful if you call the 800 number and I am sure they would fax you a copy if it was late for some reason.

I think you can have it faxed to you every week, but there is a charge for that, if I am not mistaken.

Did you look at the "Misleading Finals" section, usually starts on P.1? I like that section alot. Hope it works for you. Like I say, I look forward to it and always read it from cover to cover, so in my case it is definitely worth the money.

Good luck.

Any chance you have an old one you would mind emailing me I could take a look at? I downloaded their free ones, but they are all playoffs and really dont give me a good idea of what each writeup might be like during the regular season.

Acehistr8, there are no updates during the week. They sell a number of other services, including late phone selections, which I would guess you would have to buy for updates. I have not subscribed to their phone service.

If you had asked me a couple of weeks ago, I could have emailed you a copy, but I just cleaned out all my old stuff and deleted everything. I don't save the paper copies just because my wife sees them and then see thinks that I live and breathe for football and, of course, I don't. That is, I don't breathe for football, I only live for it.

If you called their 800 number, I'll bet they would send you an old copy of one.

Mover - Take a look at Power Sweep's Dog Play of the Week. It's quite good. About 2 years ago, it was Awesome!

Another publication you should look into is College & Pro Football Weekly. It's a weekly publication in newspaper type form and it has fantastic "match-up statistics". It looks similar to a baseball boxscore format but it shows the two football teams that are playing each other. It shows many many many important match up information for each team. Some of the info are: type of offense, yds rushing, yds passing, turnovers caused and allowed, current record, last game's statistics, yr to date statistics, and much much more, all at your finger tip. And these matchups are printed in the same order of your football schedule. Check it out and I'm sure you will understand why it's my favorite publication.

By the way, they do give their opinion on each game although I always take it with a grain of salt. It's the match up statistics that I love

Yeah, it's good -- but Phil Steele has exaggerated the record of these dog plays. He lost one or two of these dog plays of the week before 9/11 last fall and conveniently dropped the losses from the record he gives out.

I think the first loser was Tulane plus the points at BYU, and there may have been one or two more losers after that which he somehow forgot about after 9/11.

Still, it's a great newsletter, and I buy it every week at the newsstand, which is the best way to do it, if you can locate it. I get it at 3:00 on Tuesday, but it's in a much more convenient package than an internet printout.

MW-completely agree with you. Last year's Dog Plays weren't that good but throughout the years, it has been "quite good". As I stated, I think it was either 1999 or 2000 that it was Awesome. His newsletter is very good and I always read it, but have heard some bad things about his phone operations. Don't know if it is true so I always take things with a grain of salt. Have to truly experience it before I jump on or off the ship.

But, I still say College and Pro Football is my favorite read as it offers the best statistical analysis of each upcoming game (college & pro). If you haven't used it, check it out and I'm sure you'll love it.

mw, I want to add to your comments that buying at the newstand requires an extra trip, a chance that they will be sold out and more money to acquire.

The internet printout is actually very good (assuming you have a decent printer) and is exactly the same as the original product, albeit not in a booklet type form.

I would definitely take the convenience of picking it up off the internet for a cheaper price over running out to pick it up at a newsstand every week.

Either way, I think the Power Sweep is an excellent weekly publication.
