Hello All,

As an intersted observer to this column over the last few months, interested to know how many play golf and what you all play off.

You all seem to know the game inside-out, just wondering how good you are at it and what came first the love of golf or the love of gambling?

Just interested!

Simon

PS keep up the good work, it's my first port of call before laying a golf bet.

Hi Simon

Nice handle. Anyone with an interest in soccer will know which team you support ;)

As for me, I don't play anymore, so it's more gambling than golf now. Though when I did start playing I was definitely too young to be gambling!

Stanley,
You are never too young to gamble.... I still remember my first winning bet a 1/= double on the horses... and being almost expelled from school several times for organising card schools :)

Simon,
Last year I lead all the way and won the British Open going away at the end..... unfortunately my name is not on the Claret Jug as it was the Madjack comp.... I have not played proper golf for a couple of years.... afraid my best was to once break 90 BUT... it was on an 18 hole course :thefinger

Last time I played the ball seemed to be airsick, it didn't want to get to any decent height above the ground :(

Played and followed golf religiously before ever wagering.Became interested in wagering when 1st meeting Stan years ago.His site provided the data that got me hooked. I might also add that I understand Stan at one time was quite a college player till injury cut him short.
Myself while I don't play everyday there are less than 20 days a year I don't hit balls and in those 20 (today is one with bout 8 inches of snow falling last night) I will swing a Momentum indoors and and practice putting during commercials of todays tourney.
You could say I am ate up with it.
Enjoy the wagering also.Very modest better @ norm of $50 a match and $10 exotic's.More of a method to keep score than trying to bust the book.

Started playing when I was 8 years old, then caddied from age 12-18 at a club outside Chicago. Big thrill was caddying for Mr. 59 Al Geiberger at the Western Open in 1981 at Butler National Country Club when the local caddies in the area were used to carry the pros bags since the tourney is a big Chick Evans Foundation contributor. They had a draw for what player you would caddy for, I was going #1 from our club. So they put all the names of the caddies in the trophy for the 1st rounders (40) and I got picked dead last out of the first round, Watson, Nicklaus, and Trevino all played that year. Anyway it was a great experience and Al missed the cut by one shot after bogeying 8 and 9 on Friday (we started on the back side). A good friend of mine got Greg Norman about 2 years later and he ended up losing in a playoff to Watson. The friend made $2700 and thats when first prize use to pay about $72K. I love the game but being outside Chicago can only play about 6 months out of the year, lowest handicap I had was a 6 but since marriage and kids for the last 10 years I play to a 14 now. First gambling score was Olazabal in Masters in 94, had a friend place the wager in Vegas.

Play to a 6, though my iron game is about like a 28 capper the last few years. Started playing at age 11 and was decent on h.s. team ( first or second man throughout ). Recruited only by small schools I wasn't interested in, so I tried to walk on at OSU, but they were really good (NCAA champs) and I was not anywhere near that league! Now I just hack with friends and co-workers in leagues playing mostly "lift clean and cheat" type golf -nothing serious like h.s. days where we played it down and putted everything out. Since I was 11 I've always enjoyed watching golf on tv, as much or more than other sports.

Gambled mostly in "football" pools and on Vegas trips in my 20's and then noticed Vegas hanging golf lines so played them a little. Played some hoops and fb offshore, over the phone, > 5 yrs ago, but it was a turn off and my first out was Sports International - one of the most renowned rip off books ever. I only got my $ out by middling out. Shortly after getting a PC, I happened onto islandcasino who listed tourney and daily matchups and EVERY TWOSOME on Sundays. Was hooked and did very well there until they stopped offering the Sunday matchups and went downhill. Didn't find gambling forums for over a year of playing at ?-able outs. First forum I happened across was oddswiz which merged with bookie's hell to become BW. Eventually found this place and DTB and Stanley, two of the best cappers and good guys around.

So golfer first, then gambler at other sports, then decided I could leverage some of the info I'd absorbed playing and watching golf for > 20 years, with some stats, by combining the two.

GL:D

Was introduced to gambling and golf at quite a young age (about 12 years old) and would say I get equal enjoyment out of both.

I only get the chance to play golf a couple of times a month which is a shame when I have about 25 quality golf courses within 30 mins of where I live. I guess that is why the Gold Coast is becoming known as the Golf Coast.

I am on a 15 handicap and until I play more regularly don't expect that to come down too much.
