Morrison still expected to play Thursday
Gonzaga showed on Saturday that it could win without a great effort from Player of the Year candidate Adam Morrison. And given how Morrison is feeling these days, that could be a good thing for the 'Zags.
According to a report in the New York Times, Morrison missed Monday's practice with flu-like symptoms.
The star forward said he had a temperature of 101 degrees during Gonzaga's 90-80 win over Indiana in the second round of the NCAA tournament, which could account for his 5-of-17 showing from the field. Morrison scored just 14 points in the win, less than half of his season average of 28.2 points per game.
Morrison is diabetic, which he said is complicating his recovery from the illness.
That being said, the team still expects Morrison to play when Gonzaga faces No. 2 seed UCLA Thursday night in the regional semifinals.
"We're not going to win the game today," Gonzaga assistant Tommy Lloyd said after Morrison skipped Monday's practice.
Morrison's 49 points tie him with Duke's J.J. Redick and Washington's Brandon Roy for the most through two rounds. He scored 35 in a first-round win over Xavier to record the highest single-game total this tournament.
The junior forward is averaging 28.2 points this season and has topped the 40-point mark on five occasions.
Morrison was held to 14 points in Gonzaga's 90-80 second-round win over Indiana on Saturday, but the team had six players score in double figures.
