Raiders will surely make it to the wildcard weekend next season. Glad I don't have to hear his stupid fucking comments next season.

The Raiders won't see the playoffs as long as he's head coach.

Ok yeah, Gruen is a terrible analyst. Very poor, and to repeat my comments yesterday, saying Alex Smith should be in the pro bowl makes anything LaVar Ball has ever said look like it came from Mark Twain. There are at least 10 NFL QBs I would take over Smith, and in fact Gruen will be coaching one of them next year.

BUT.....

Chris Collingsworth is even worse. A smarmy, condescending, disingenuous guy who over-hypes the most average players every game. He is a know-all who thinks his opinion is the only one that matters and the inly problem with football is that he is not running it. Even the great Al Michaels can't cover for him. He is by far the worst TV sports analyst I have ever heard, from any country.

Collingsworth is the only TV commentator that has forced me to stop watching a game and watch something else instead. He grates on me that badly. Great example last night, he described one DB as "the best third down secondary guy against a mobile QB in the league". What a moron.

Nothing succeeds like success and Romo is a smash hit at CBS.

ESPN can put together a new team with Carson Palmer or possible but not likely Eli or Peyton along with a hand picked play by play guy to replace Sean McDonough.

The dynamics that Tony Romo and Jim Nantz broadcast team has brought to the 18-45 year old both male and female demographic hasn't been lost on any of the major networks. It's a must to hold on to especially given the 10% fall in viewership this season.

The QB telling you what play is coming next and what the defense will do to try to stop it will soon be coming from every network from at least one of their broadcast teams.

Copycat league copycat business.

Al Michael on the "Dan Patrick Show" called Chris Collinsworth the best game analysts in the business.

:popcorn2 Which begs the question for the thread...Who do you consider the best Pro Football game analysts???

Totally agree. I do think Romo talks too much most of the time, but he's the only one I really like calling a game.

As far as Gruden or any other announcer--and for my taste I think the SNB crew has been the absolute worst. Alot of people didn't like Joe Morgan and Jon Miller on SNB, but I'd take them anytime over the last 2 inept groups. Between Oral Hershiser and Aaron Boone, they could make someone throw a TV out the window.

Hope they do better this coming season.

So who do you think would make great announcers on MNF or SNF? Already know who people don't like--who DO you like?

grudens win% as a HC is 54.

when his 4-6 years of revival coaching is done and his win % is STILL mid 50s he will "RETIRE" for good

a few years later everyone will REJOICE that hes back broadcasting.

That is foretold. This is the prophecy.

Reality is this.

hes a mediocre coach.
hes a mediocre announcer

When, and I fucking mean WHEN. this comes true again, I hope I'm stinking rich, cause man. I can predict the future but I don't know how to make money on this kinda shit.

This is a good question. It might be that I don't really notice the analysts much unless they are bad, a bit like officiating crews.

But when I first came to the US, I saw John Madden a lot, who I loved. Of the current crop, I think Phil Simms and Troy Aikmen bring some gravitas and don't annoy me. Both were great players, but then again, so was Collingsworth himself.

Al Michaels is selling a product, what else is he going to say? Still, Al is one of my favorite ever sports on TV guys. Likes to drink and gamble and loves the ponies.....what's not to like?
