I keep picturing that scene in Casino where Joe Pesci and his brother end up getting buried in the desert. Too bad it wasn't this Goodlatte guy. But the mob probably is in his corner, since he's trying to ban offshore gambling, which would give gambling back to the mob. I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about this guy and this bill he's trying to get passed. About the only info we hear on it is when Covers posts an article.

This bill wont get anywhere.

Goodlatte tried to tack so many exemptions onto this bill in order to garner support that he lost a lot of supporters who now think this bill will do nothing that it is intended to do. He tried exemptions for state lotteries, jai alai, dog tracks, horse tracks etc and ended up picking and chosing among them. Naturally that leaves a lot of pissed off people in the industries that get left out.

For instance, he gave preference to horse tracks, while slapping the casino industry with a lot of new regulations. He also made it extremely tough on charities trying to do fundraising online. In the end, when the bill went to committee, all the exemptions were killed. Leads me to believe that kills a lot of support.

Dont worry about this guy, hes had a spur up his ass about this for the last 6 years. Chances are if it even makes it out of committee and the Senate takes it up, they wont take significant action on it.
