Rambling thoughts and questions from a new user:

Are there any books worth reading on sports betting?

Is there room for parlays in a successful betting strategy? What I am thinking of doing is assigning one unit per day for parlays. Maybe one parlay of one unit or five parlays for 1/5 unit each, etc.

What percentage of a total bankroll is safe to assign to one unit? I started at 5% and now (due to a successful month) one unit is currently 2.5% of my bankroll.

What is the key to success in handicapping baseball games? It is my favorite sport but I have never had a good handle on betting the games. Most of my success comes in NCAA football and NCAA basketball.

I don?t have any statistics, but I do well playing the under on the lowest total and the over on the highest total in the NBA. Maybe it just seems that way.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I look forward to contributing more to these forums.

On the course!
Welcome! That's a lot of questions for a 1st post!

I don't have the time to answer any of them now, but I'm sure some of the clan will.

Good luck!

Good questions. First, let me state that I am the worst capper I've ever seen so I won't offer any advice in that area.

Books - Lots of 'em. If MJ doesn't mind, here's a link http://www.gamblersbook.com/

A 5% unit is aggressive. Pros recommend 2%-3%, so it sounds like you're back in line since you were winning. Some pros limit their unit to 1%, but they have a hell of a bankroll.

Parlays - Differing opinions. IF you get at least 6-1 on 3 teamers then I think they have value in limiting your bankroll pressure when you have a lot of plays on one particular day. Other than that I don't recommend 'em.

That's an interesting comment about NBA totals. Have you kept any records to verify your suspicions? Someone around here (probably IE) could check that out for you.

Good Luck
