In light of seeing what has happened in the Big Easy I wonder how anyone, be they left or right leaning can even support gun control. What if order breaks down where you live? I personally have never owned a gun or even held a loaded one but have always supported the 2nd Amendment. Seeing what has happened has only strengthened my opinion. Seriously thinking of buying one now.

exactly....

however the gun opponents will tell you that all the dutiful citizens taking pot shots at police, vandalizing, raping, and looting would gleefully turn their gun in if the government decided to make them illegal

I agree we should all have guns even the 13 year olds. Just like back in the 1800's. Then we all can just shoot at each other when ever we want.

Hey it worked back then they shot first asked questions later. We only needed 5 to 6 prisons for the whole country. A tree and rope worked well. They guessed half were Innocent but was to late once dead. Same would happen today. But if it makes you feel safer let everyone have a weapon.

don't know if this sounds logical or even possible, but wouldn't it be nice if working guns could be kept out of the hands of criminals? if they can use your fingerprint to do everything to gain access to controlled areas to paying your bills, why can't the make all guns so that it has to recognize the fingerprint to pull the trigger?? (same thing might be useful in cars to prevent some thefts.)

Yes I agree. And another step. Some type of control that would keep drunks from driving. What a nasty weapon a drunk with 3500 lb vehicle.

Peersonally, I don't care about gun control.. But a person could reach the exact opposite conclusion based on NO as well. If there was more gun control. then there would have been a lot fewer in the hands of the looters.

Again, I don't care either way - but I can't see how NO would be much of an argument for less controls.

..........................................................

very astute ideas.

I have read that fingerprinting of guns before they will fire is something that is being worked on. Alot of implications good and bad with it.

It is very high tech technology that will make that happen. And it would be very expensive .

I have a concealed weapons permit in Georgia.

I have a Sig-sauer .45 auto close to me about everywhere I go.

About two weeks ago I had to go out on a construction site in Atlanta. It was a Saturday so I decided to take my wifes dog ,
golden retriever 1 year old, with me to get her some exercise and for a ride in the truck.

I say my wifes dog because she picked it out and pretty much holds that line. Its the only dog we allow in the house all the time.

When I get to the job site, its a Industrial park for businesses. I find the site and no one is there or around.

I let the dog out and she runs around to go to the bathroom. She always stays close to me. I had the leash with me but she was not on it.

All of a sudden from around the corner of one of the buildings under construction came a pit bull and a rottweiller. Seriously I almost chit my pants. I turn to get my dog, my wifes dog, the one she loves and cherishs.

Before I could react the pit bull grabs my dog by the head and would not let go. I hit it in the face about 3 times,

The rottweiler just kinda stood there looking at me.

I picked up a two by four that was on a concrete pile and went over and hit the pit dog in the ass and then the head. It was like hitting a brick wall. Still didnt let go. My dog was on the ground on her side.

Not even 3 minutes has passed. The dog still has my dog by the head. I run to the truck , reach under and pull out the .45 .
I jack the fawking chamber.

I run up to the pit bull and hold the gun up to his side and fire one shot. Blood starts to gush up and the pit lets go of my dog.

Both dogs run off. One not too far I would guess.

I can see two deep holes in my dogs head and a tendon kinda sticking out. Trip to the emergency vet and stitchs.

Not sure who would let dogs like that roaming around.

My wife was beyond herself about it but at least she still has her dog.

nah, criminals and gang members wouldnt get guns if they were illegal would they

you would only disarm the law abiding public and embolden gangs and criminals by eliminating the last line of defense

some did

memo to smurphy: you make guns illegal, and these hooligans will have them anyway

what makes you think they would have any respect for such a law?

not sure why i have to restate the same point 3 times, but i will check again in a few hours or so if i need to do it again

I never said anything about ILLEGAL and again - I don't really have an opinion about stricter controls. I just don't think that gun laws one way or another affected the looting. A lot of the guns the criminals used were themselves looted from stores.

memo to Freeze. It has nothing to do with "respect" or "legality", it's about availability.

If "thugs" or "looters" can't buy them over ther counter at a convenience store then things get a little tougher.
Not every black man has "connections" you know ;)

During the Watts riots in LA a decade or so ago, many of the store owners stayed on top of their stores or inside armed with shotguns. Not much looting.
