I have just started to bet on sports and want to start handicapping myself. Where is a good place to start looking to start? Any tips or secrets?

Handicapping's for homos. Just bet under and go back to sleep. You'll never do worse than fifty percent.

a few tips..

Do not bet everything... when most people start out they bet anything and everything and lose a lot of money in the process. Learn to be picky and choose your wagers. IF you cannot decide an advantage between 'A' and 'B' do not wager on it.

Follow a few handicappers on this board for awhile before wagering. Many people explain why they are wagering a certain way... learn from them... their mistakes and victories.

On the same line... do not blame anyone for your wager but yourself. You make the final decision on what to wager your money on. If you follow handicapper 'A' and bet his picks and it loses... do not come back to him whining about it. You placed the bet.

Never pay for picks. Too many free resources out there to help you handicap. (like this site) or around the web.

Keep seeking information around the web that may help you gain an advantage over the books. Sometimes you can grab a line that is off if the book is too slow to change their line.

Do not bet over your head. If you can't afford to lose money now do not bet it.

Do not kick yourself if you forget to wager a game. There are always more opportunities to be found. And a lot of times you may be glad you missed the bet.

a lastly enjoy it... if it ever gets too stressful or you start down the road to financial ruin.. stop. because chasing your losses with more losses just makes it even worse.

FINZ2LFT.......................................... ....

FINZ2LFT.......................................... ....

This is the best advice u will ever get !!!!!!!!

99.9 % of every one that tries this ends up losing, quiting or if finances permit keep it as a hobby.

If u chose it as a vocation and possibly succeed u will have social status below a Pimp a Hooker or a Drug Dealer. However if u reside in Las Vegas u may become akin to the second coming of Jesus. Adult Performers will swarm over u like a juice filled Pomegranate as u show them ur days winning stubs.

On a more serious note...........since almost every one loses i would suggest u begin by tracking a lot of people here or even better on pick phones because posters here come and go and u cant count on the really bad ones to stay very long. And if u try and chase the good ones u are still at the mercy of their posting at a time of their own choosing and u cant spend ur life waiting for "Johnny Hot Spot" to post his plays.
Fading as it is called or wagering against a selector is something i learned from an old lady that had a Cadillac and a Condo in Miami.all financed from fading pick phones. She couldn't tell the l dif between an umpire, a coach or a 3rd baseman. But she knew how to bet against what Stu Feiner told her on the "Free Pick Phone". When she got really loaded she started paying for services and kept right on wagering the opposite of what she was told. So that's my contribution to ur downward spiral but i can tell u that i know of no free pick phone that has ever turned a profit..most services never turn a profit.so there's the Holy Grail Newbie. Go forth and Fade !!
U can search my posts from baseball last summer and see i won around 85% of my plays by fading and some tinkering of my own capping ability..but u will never see any one hit anything close to 85% wins trying to handicap.
As far as trends and stats there are plenty of people here that do them and u can ask them for
further guidance. I just wanna win !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday Fade................Arizona State......... +5.5

Sunday Fade................Arizona State......... +5.5

Here ya go Buddy....Game still in progress but I'm on
Ar State even though logic and the Capping World is
on USC.

John's Free College Basketball Selection for Sunday!

Selection: USC -5 (-110)

Reason: Put us down on USC -5 for our Free College Basketball Selection on Sunday. Today USC will be on the road as they take on Arizona State. We will lay the points with USC! USC has played solid basketball (16-5 ATS in their last 21 games), and we like their chances tonight against this poor playing Arizona State team. While USC has a small advantage on the defensive end (stats show the USC defense is allowing 1.1 points per game less then Arizona State), they have a huge advantage on offense. In fact, USC is scoring an average of 71.2 points per game, while Arizona State is scoring an average of only 58.9 points per game. This means the USC offense is scoring an average of 12.3 points per game more then Arizona State. In addition, Arizona State being at home does not give them that much of an advantage. This is because USC plays great basketball on the road (7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games). USC has also already proven to be the superior team when compared to Arizona State. This is shown by USC being 9-4 ATS in their last 13 meetings against Arizona State. Lay the points! Take USC -5!

Two more "Studley Expert Selections for Sunday!

Two more "Studley Expert Selections for Sunday!

NEED I SAY THEY BOTH ATE THE PROVERBIAL
DOGIE DOO !!!!!

913) Massachusetts
(914) Dayton

Take Dayton

Atlantic 10 has lots of excellent teams this season and while Rhode Island holds the top spot, U Mass and Dayton looking to make some noise and possibly a conference tourney run.
U Mass is 18-7 SU on the season and 2nd in the conference while Dayton is 16-8 SU and in the middle of the A-10 standings.
The Minutemen have a winning road record as they sport a 8-5 mark, but they are just 4-4 vs the number.
Dayton is one of those clubs that is undefeated at home this year with a perfect 14-0 mark.
The Flyers have outscored teams by 10 points per game on their home floor.
We have just a pick'em game here and with a club that is perfect at home, that means a lot in a tough conference.
We'll take the Flyers to make it 15 straight on the home court.

(907) Virginia Tech
(908) NC State

Take Virginia Tech

Sure looks like the Hokies are out of their slump, and in fact might just be peaking right now. If so, NC State is in deep trouble here as Virginia Tech has surely not forgotten the first meeting, an embarrassing double digit home loss to the Wolfpack. I see the Hokies getting even here with a very convincing road win, so I'll give the points."
