Hudson Valley area.....NY
Hope everyone has a nice thanksgiving day..have down sized our get together with family.. my son and his wife and granddaughters are staying home and not coming over. I understand that in these crazy times. Hopefully next year it will be better if we get this vaccine out. Stay 6 feet apart and wear a mask . It was great hooking up with Joshuadi the other day. These are crazy times now but we are all Americans [ love you Canadians too} and need to love each other and more importantly respect each other. Many of us know and lost people in this pandemic. My thoughts and prayers are to all those that lost people this year. My wife lost her brother and sister in law these past 2 months{ not c-19}
I read the obituary in my NY newspaper.. Every week there is someone I knew,teacher,former coach, former ref,neighbor etc { not all c-19 deaths} And I say how lucky I am with my wife,4 children and now 5 grandchildren ..I have a lot to be thankful for..and so do many of of us here in MJ's
In he backround I'm listening to the Macy Day parade on TV. How can I not tell this box story about the Macy's parade
My buddy who is No 2 in NYPD behind the Commissioner heard i have never been to the Macy Day parade. So he gave me 5 tickets to seat on 5th Ave bleachers with all the dignitaries ,Mayor,etc.. We get there and its packed but because we are the Commish guests one of the captains tell us across the street in front of a building its roped off and no one is there.. So we cross the street and we have almost the entire block to ourselves. Now its about 13 degrees with a windchill of -3 . My whole crew wants to leave and the parade hasn't even started . We are all shivering.. a police woman comes over and knows we are guest s of Pat and gives us hot chocolate..but one of my daughters finds a grate from the subway with warm air coming up . we all stand on the steel grate and are getting heat from down below ...the parade starts and we watch it till the end.. the warm air saved us. Then on the way home in our car one of my daughters says her underwear is all "yuky" unbeknownst to us it was the subway soot. When we got home my under wear looked like I was a coal miner. My wifes bra was white before and charcoal brown after.. When we got home we all had to take showers.. we survived the cold but warmed up to soot. When I told everyone that story the next day they all laughed at me and said " what do you think you were warming up to".
We never ever again went to a macy's day parade. my daughter in Philly this morning on facetime reminded me the story... she was the 1st one to recognize it " its yuky"..

hope everyone has a nice safe thanks giving .. thanks MJ and for giving us an opportunity to tell boring ass stories
.
