derrick harmon, a solid and crafty lefty has moved up to cruiser to fight tough o`neil bell....bell weighing in at 193.....
harmon`s last fight at 174.5 was vs ex lt hvy champ darius michalczewski in germany...he was stopped for the 1st time in his career(roy jones doesn`t count).......
harmon is no stiff.....and this isn`t a gimme....but harmon is 33 yrs old(34 in january)....and appears to be on the downside of a nice career.....
bell is a very cocky, very hungry, very strong guy who really is a legit cruiser.....harmon`s always been a lt heavy...always...
harmon can box and will keep distance here vs bell....and it`s not out of the realm of possibility that he could frustrate bell and inevitably outpoint him.....
bell is a very strong heavy punching cruiser rated no lower than #6 in any of the rankings.....he will be getting a title shot in the near future he`s #1 in the wbc and will have a mandatory with wayne braithwaite coming up(i`d pay to see that one)......he`s taking a bit of a chance here.....
just looks to me like harmon is making a last gasp effort to pull an upset and make a late career splash and maybe get a last shot at a title....
i have to lay the low number and take a shot at the naturally bigger, stronger, hungrier and heavier punching bell....
but,as i said,harmon is tough...and cute...
this is a bit like mayorga/spinks....except...bell is more skilled than mayorga...and harmon a little stronger than spinks....but,he`s never been a cruiserweight....
gotta take bell with this much on the line...the odds are lower than i expected....it`s not a bag shot....but,it`s my play....
btw.....went against many solid boxing guys i know and am taking a shot with eric lucas +115 vs aussie danny green....i expect green to jump on lucas and for lucas to weather the early storm.....and for his experience in long fights and the home venue to be factors here....
green showed some frustration when he wasn`t able to finish german softy markus beyer and resorted to head butting when beyer started to come back a bit....
these are tough picks......but the odds are favorable....gotta take the shot....0-2 is a distinct possibility....i hope not...g.l.
