Harold Ford Jr. going to work for Fox News Channel

By JENNIFER PEEBLES
Staff Writer

Former U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. is going to work for Fox News Channel as a political commentator, the network announced this morning.

Now heading the Democratic Leadership Council and working for Merrill Lynch, the former Congressman from Memphis was bested by Republican Bob Corker in the November election.

The following is the complete text of the press statement put out today by Fox News:

Former Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. has joined FOX News as a political contributor to the network?s news programming, announced Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of FOX News. He will be under contract with FOX News to provide political commentary and analysis on international events and the 2008 election.

Harold Ford, Jr. served Tennessee in the United States Congress for 10 years. He earned a reputation of being one of the most dynamic leaders in the Democratic Party. Described by President Clinton as ?the walking, living embodiment of where America ought to go in the 21st century,? Ford is now a Professor of Public Policy at Vanderbilt, Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council and Vice Chairman of Merrill Lynch.

In making the announcement, Ailes said, ?We are very happy that Harold Ford, Jr. will bring his independent voice and brilliant ability to analyze the issues to FOX News. His wealth of experience and insight will be key to FOX as we endeavor to stay on top of fast moving events around the world and here in our own country. The upcoming Presidential campaign will be one of the most interesting in our lifetime and Harold?s depth of knowledge and analysis about American politics will enhance the news we deliver to our viewers.?

During his five terms in congress, Ford?s focus was results. Having served on both the Financial Services and Budget Committees, his passion for free enterprise and balanced budgets as well as confidence in American ingenuity to overcome any foe, bolsters his belief that America?s best days are in front of us. The challenge and opportunity to grow America?s economy, restore our global moral stature and standing in the world, and free us from our dependence on foreign oil, continues to inspire his work today. He believes that government is most effective when it?s working for the betterment of everyone.

FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour general news service covering breaking news as well as political, entertainment and business news. For more than five years, FNC has been the most watched cable news channel in the nation and currently presents 9 out of the top 10 programs in cable news. Owned by News Corp., FNC is available in more than 85 million homes.

Probably not a bad idea for Ford to set himself up for a run at Alexander's seat in 2008 (regardless of what Ford has said publicly). Probably not a bad idea for Fox to reach yet another population segment with its propganda. Both parties involved win!

What population segment are you taking about ? I think fox has reached all (segments) of the population, all over the world by now. What am I missing.

Those that only have radios? This was a good idea by FOX. They should put him opposite Hannity. Then we could turn on and watch Ford eat him a live. I wonder if his contract will say no campaigning for 08 Pres nominee. If so what a stroke.

Interesting hire, I agree. I note he is listed as the Vice Chairman of Merrill Lynch? What does that mean? Sounds like a big-shooter position, unless it is some kind of symbolic title?

You know what segment he is talking about and he is right. Its reality and nothing really wrong with it.

Obvious to who ??? Whats the problem ? He's not black enough for you ? Why do people like you and sponge have to look at others threw glasses colored with the lowest possible common denominator. My only point is : Not all people of any race are going to like or dislike Ford because of his race. I think it will come down to education, the way the viewer was socialized, the type of job they have and many more life experiences. Why should he be shunned, and by who ? I don't think any race thinks alike more than any other race. I find that most people and the way they think is fostered from the way they were raised, their education, social class, economic wealth. My guess is the line that will be drawn for and against Ford will have more to do with education and income rather than race. I'm not naive, there will be fringe groups from both races that don't like this guy because of race issues. I think that's the vocal uneducated minority. This guy is a lighting rod because there are going to be people of all races that look at him and say : this guy is not what I think he should be. Those people have to look inward and ask : why do I think that way ?

Nah bro that is something you cooked up in your confrontational mind. The more i see Obama the more i like him but he will not win one state in the South. They like the Frist of the world, the Maccacas, The Brownbacks. They like the guy that can con them the easiest. Hey we have them in Pa. too but its not the majority. They are all over the country. I see one in South Boston that post on this site who will do the same thing as the majority of the Southeners. Howard Ford is a class act aand a super politician in my mind and he got drilled when he tried to run in the South. You need to take your platform down there aand ask why? Here it is in the minority. Most of us here can see a con job. Not all the time but most of the time.

You are in such a hurry to respond, and convince yourself you are something that you are not. I don't have a platform. I'm just trying to point out that there are different ways of looking at things. I know you think Ford is such a class act, but you can't get his first name right. You keep talking about how he got drilled in the south . Corker won the election 51 to 48 %. If the majority of the south thought the way you think they do, the race couldn't have been that close. An awful lot of people that are not black had to vote for him. People that think like you are the minority here, I agree with you there.

nah bry im not in a hurry to respond i happen to be on the comp handicapping and just browsing the forum. Im gonna take care of a few matters if you are interested in about 30 minutes so you can post what you want and then i will respond later. Lets get back to your first question on this topic. You knew very well what the guy meant but you are a confrontational type of person. I have seen you a few times accuse people of being racist. Some was warranted but most were not. I think you said something to me once when i said something about D McNab. It is all about race with you. I think i tried to explain to you that Warren Moon was one of my favorite quarterbacks but this meant nothing to you. Here is a news flash for you i voted for Jesse in the primary's one year because i liked an idea he had about pension programs. Me the racist voting for Jesse imagine that. I live in the world of reality and if the truth stings you have to learn to live with it. I also think Harold got less than 48 percent but i will check on that later. Why don't you write to the fellow who won because his racist add sealed the deal in that race. Im sure a lot of people reading this thread would agree with my point on how hard it is for a Black to win in the south but they just rather not get involved. Especially with a guy like you who already has his mind made up and is like talking to a wall.

Everything you come up with confirms for me what I think you are. I could care less if you are a racist. Your intelligence is what irritates me. There is no reason for most of the things you post, that I can see, from my life experience. When you do look it up, you will find that Ford received 48% of the vote and by any way you slice it, he had to get about 40% of the white vote. No non republican has won a senate seat in Virginia since 1990. For a black democrat to come that close, proves you are wrong about what you think today's south is. If you want a gold star for voting for Jesse, you won't get it from me. I would never vote for a guy of any race like that. You defend your ideas by saying that you live in reality; I'd rather die than succumb to, or live your reality.

You ever see that movie Back To School? You remind me of the teacher who was teaching the class about starting a business and Rodney tried to tell him the realities of starting a business. The teacher told him to take his thoughts out of the classroom and Rodney said maybe you can build your business in fantasy land.

I guess you and I prove one thing, there is more than one America. Life and gambling are similar when it comes to perception -vs- reality. In gambling you have to stay ahead of the curve, see the change and react to it as it's happening. By the time some people catch up, a trend is over and another has started. Sure there are people that think and live like you, there will always be that group behind the curve. YOU TALK ABOUT HOW FORD GOT DRILLED IN THAT SENATE RACE. YOUR THEORY ABOUT THE SOUTH AND WHO CAN GET ELECTED HAS A BIG HOLE IN IT, BASED ON THE #'S OF THAT SENATE ELECTION IN TENNESSEE. HAVE YOU LOOKED UP THOSE NUMBERS YET ?????? HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THEM ???? Why hold onto the past ? Embrace the future. Take a walk on the wild side, sneak a peak, a new day is coming, it's 2007 , you are a free man in a free country, think like it, live it !!!!

Okay you were right it was 51-48. The only thing you have been right about. I gave up watching the race when it was something like 54-38. He must have had a late surge but this is still a drubbing because in my lifetime there never could have been a better time when a democrat should have won. Even Webb should have won by a bigger margin and there he had an opponent who also with a racial statement "Maccaca almost won. Maybe the south will elect a black senator if he is republican but a black democrat will never win. You really need to wake up cause its reality and your silly spin on this shit like i approve of it is flat out ludicrous. Allen and Corker both use racism in there pursuit of the senate. Why did they do this? It didn't happen here in Pa. cause they know it works and if Macca was running against a black Democrat he would have won too.
