Has anyone been a "runner" for a local or offshore book?

thanks for the insight. Sounds pretty much like what I have in front of me. I agree with you about the tough part of setting limits for your friends. Not to mention the possibility of them getting in over their head and getting hurt.

I have never been a runner, but have had business dealings with friends & relatives. The only thing that I would say is money & friends or relatives is a bad mix.You will have problems.

What happens if your friends get in over their heads, are you responsible for them being short?

That is the the main thing that has worried me.
My plan is this: Just never tell them that I'm involved. Let them know that If they lose and can't pay that I can't keep that from getting a visit.

That is exactly what you need to do Smashmouth. The second your people think that business is not strictly business you will see that some of your friends are now on the scumbag list, and you end up taking the heat from the Casino.

I agree with AR, dealing with family and friends is always f**ked when it comes to cash, unless you and your contacts can seperate business matters from personal (both parties understand it's not personal, just biz) - you can never mix the two and it is very hard for many people to do. OTOH if they are close then you know their limits - then you can cut them off when they try to chase. I have never been anything more than an end user when it comes to this topic, but I have seen some nasty stuff happen because of it.

just my .02

not really a good topic to discuss in a public forum. may as well discuss selling and growing weed while you're at it

anyway......what happens when this book doesn't pay your buddy his 30 dimes after he went on some wild and crazy hot streak?

never know....

Sorry Jack. If this thread is not appropriate feel free to close it. I don't want to cause you any problems. I just felt that this was a pretty safe way to discuss something like this, because that is all it is is discussion.
Good point about the thirty dimes. I haven't had a problem collecting, but obviously on a smaller scale.

no problem. talk about it all you want. i just doubt (HIGHLY DOUBT) that you'll get the answers you're looking for in a public forum, that's all.
